Olympic BMX champion Saya & her brother, Kai Sakakibara's story is one of pure resilience.

After reading their story recently, we felt the need to share with our wider community. We hope stories like these encourage others to keeping going and striving for what they want. Resilience isn't about never falling. It's about getting back up.

When Saya Sakakibara saw her brother nearly die in a BMX crash, fear took hold. It nearly broke the star siblings' Olympic dream.

We're a finalist! πŸŽ‰ We just got nominated as a finalist for the Not-for-profit/community website of the year at the 2025 Australian Access Awards, organised by the Centre for Accessibility Australia

The nomination alone is a huge achievement for everyone here at Ability Heroes. Not only are we excited to attend the evening and see the results, but we also look forward to cheering on our peers and being around incredible organisations that are also pushing for change.

A night exploring the future of accessible technology! We heard how AR and VR technology can support the Ability Heroes platform, making community participation more convenient and safe for people of all abilities. A huge thanks to the fantastic team at Moncrieff Technology Solutions for organising this inspiring event and to Richard Thompson from Viewtech3D for his insightful talk. It was inspiring and exciting to hear about the possibilities ahead for accessibility, technology and Ability Heroes.

Special shoutout to Des and his amazing Seeing Eye Dog, who was clearly as engaged as the rest of us! πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί

This is just the beginning - exciting developments coming soon! Follow us, support us and stay tuned for more updates on how we're building technology that empowers all abilities to navigate with dignity and confidence.

A simple change, a massive impact.

Ability Heroes is creating an app that will change the way we all view accessibility. It's not magic, it's just a group of people who saw a problem with navigation and decided to make a change. Our aim, to create inclusion and access for all. A chance to travel with dignity and respect every day.

Follow our journey as we start to launch our new app and help change the way communities see accessibility.

Follow, support, share.

Ability Heroes - Empowering Choices.

Have your say in Perth's inclusive future!
The City of Perth is asking for your input on their new Access and Inclusion Plan (2026-2031). This is an opportunity to help make Perth even more accessible and inclusive for everyone in our community.

What's already been achieved?
– Two awards at the Most Accessible Communities WA
– "Sensitive Santa" experiences for children with sensory needs
– Inclusive library programs
– Disability awareness training for city hotels
– Community advisory groups making real change

How can you help?
Share your experiences, suggest improvements (like where handrails or seating are needed), or provide feedback on accessibility barriers you face. The city has even included a map so you can comment on specific locations!

Take the survey via the link below, and let's work together to keep building on this amazing progress!

If you’ve ever felt left out because of access issues, this is for you…

The team has been hard at work on creating an app that puts accessibility first. We have created a tool that will allow people of all abilities to plan and navigate with dignity and respect.

We've been spreading the word and soon we'll be able to share the finished app with you all. From an idea to an interface - let's stop putting accessibility last.

Our mission is simple: make every space open to everyone. Here’s how you can help.

It may just look like a run-of-the-mill white van, but this vehicle is Adam's access to the wider community. This van enables us to visit organisations that have an interest in Ability Heroes and our projects. It allows us to build connections, grow our projects, and be an active part of the community.

We wanted to say a big thank you to mechanic Tony Sardelic, from Tony's Autos in Hamilton Hill, who recently serviced our van. Back on the road we go!
