Snacking vs Grazing are NOT the same. And for weight loss, that matters.
Here's why:
Snacking is intentional: planned, portioned, and chosen to fuel your body between meals.
Grazing is mindless: small amounts eaten constantly, often without hunger or awareness.
Why does this matter for weight loss?
Whether or not you've undergone (or are considering) bariatric surgery, when we graze, the body never gets a clear break.
Insulin stays elevated, hunger cues get blurred, and it becomes easy to consume more energy than you realise...without ever feeling satisfied. ☹️
Post-surgery, grazing can also steer habits in the wrong direction, limit your protein intake, and slow weight loss progress over time.
Because restriction and denial inevitably makes weight loss more challenging, the goal isn’t 'NO snacks'.
It's better snacks, eaten on purpose.
👇 Top tips for healthy snacking habits
- Plan snacks like you would meals
- Prioritise protein first
- Pair protein with fibre for fullness
- Sit down, eat mindfully (no scrolling!)
- Check hunger vs habit
- Avoid eating straight from the packet
- Keep snack timing consistent
Small habits add up.
This holiday season, snack with intention, not on autopilot!
Enjoy!
