“Cross dressing” is contextual to time and place. 200 years ago, a woman wearing pants would have been considered cross dressing. In the island nations surrounding Australia, it is commonplace for men to wear skirts. In Aus, 2023, “cross dressing” typically refers to cisgender men dressing in “women’s” clothing. There are a lot of stereotypes attached to the behaviour of cross dressing, people linking it to one’s sexuality or gender identity; and whilst it *can* be an expression of these things, it doesn’t have to be. Sometimes men just enjoy wearing “women’s” clothing. Maybe the much broader selection of fabrics feel nice against their skin. Maybe it allows them to access a softer side of themselves. Maybe it accentuates their sexy b***y! We need to stop reading into someone’s choice to put a bit of fabric on their body, does it really hurt anyone?

This is Morning Glory Zell-Ravenheart, an American author, lecturer in neo paganism and ‘priestess of the Church of All Worlds”. She is credited with coining the word ‘Polyamory’ in her essay “A Bouquet of Lovers” in 1990.

People who engage in polyamorous or non-monogamous relationships often have to write their own collaborative relationship ‘rule books’, because there aren’t any societal norms to fall back on - but really, anyone in any type of relationship structure could operate like this! 💛
