The deepest connections aren't made during the loudest moments.

They're forged in the quiet honesty that happens after the game, when the mentor and mentee are just walking off the field. That's where the real bonding happens. Our Night Out programs are intentionally designed to create these moments. While the competitive games and shared cooking (and the laughter!) build initial camaraderie and friendships within the community, the true magic is in the shared wind-down.

Stepping outside removes the formality, allowing mentors and mentees to see each other as people first. This relaxed environment is crucial for building trust, strengthening the mentor-mentee bond, and fostering the authentic, supportive community we aim for.

The reward isn't the score of the game; it's a mentee who feels safe to share a quiet thought, a mentor who truly understands their young person, and a community network built on mutual respect.

What’s the sound of a great night out?

It's the sizzle of snags on the barbie, mixed with loud laughs from competitive games.

Pure, uncomplicated fun that builds proper mateship. We believe the best social skills are built outside, where the air is fresh and the energy is high. Our program is all about shared experiences: first, we unleash the energy with some classic outdoor games, testing our teamwork and coordination. Then, we gather 'round the barbie! Cooperation, communication, and looking out for your mate while cooking up a feast.

That's genuine social bonding in action. It’s a relaxed, easy way for everyone to hang out and strengthen those community ties. It's the buzz of the group, the shared stories, and the stronger bonds formed over food and fun.

What’s the biggest barrier to a young man's independence?

Often, it's just the overwhelming process.

Our mentors step in to eliminate the stress and replace it with focused confidence. For this young man, getting his Learner's Permit felt like an overwhelming process to tick off. His mentor didn't just tell him what to do; they provided active, hands-on support for every single step, ensuring he felt competent and calm throughout the process:
- Practice & Preparation: Sitting side-by-side to run through practice theory tests until he was ready.
- Logistics & Transactions: Guiding him through the application and completing the necessary forms and payments.
- Milestone Recognition: A celebratory walk around Lake Monger and supporting him to buy his essential Learner Plates.

Earning those L plates is a huge, tangible achievement that immediately expands this young man's opportunities for work, study, and social freedom. The true reward is seeing him gain the confidence and self-reliance that comes from conquering a major milestone with consistent support.

Imagine having one person who just gets it.

That's the goal. When a mentor prioritises friendship and connection, they create a safe space where true trust flourishes: leading to a lifelong relationship that truly matters. Rapport is earned, not assigned.

Our incredible mentors understand that the path to a young man's trust is paved with consistency, shared fun, and zero judgment. By simply showing up and investing in genuine friendship they are building a reliable bond. This mentor-mentee connection quickly becomes a crucial anchor, offering a safe space where the young person can be vulnerable, ask tough questions, and find unconditional support.

It is this foundation of unwavering trust that truly allows growth to happen. The reward is immense: a supportive, long-term relationship that impacts the young man's entire outlook.

Stepping outside is more than just a change of scenery, it's a change of pace.

We soak up the long, beautiful spring evenings and the last rays of sunlight here in Perth for our night out, creating a relaxed, natural environment where barriers drop and true friendships flourish. With summer just around the corner, there’s no better time to trade screen time for fresh air and friendly competition.

Our young men are mastering the art of connection, not in a classroom, but over a round of outdoor games and loud, genuine laughter. The energy is high, the conversations are flowing, and without even realising it, they're developing the essential social skills that turn acquaintances into solid mates.

This is what building community looks like: real-time problem-solving, teamwork, and the kind of unforgettable fun that strengthens social confidence. The reward is watching these teens leave the night more connected, more confident, and ready to take on the world.

Making big decisions can be daunting, so we start small.

Putting two great options on the whiteboard (Werewolf or Cards) gives them low-stakes practice in debating, voting, and compromising. We remove the risk so they can focus on mastering the process. The decision-making process is a foundational social skill for adulthood.

By facilitating this choice, we teach them how to identify their preference, articulate it assertively, respectfully listen to opposing views, and ultimately, accept the collective outcome with good sportsmanship. Whether the group picks the high-stakes intrigue of Werewolf or the relaxed simplicity of cards, they learn that true independence means not just knowing what you want, but how to effectively navigate a shared community choice.

The long-term payoff is profound confidence.

You know what's contagious?

A genuine, easy smile.

Especially when it comes from a mentor who’s just soaking up the sunshine and having a laugh alongside the group. That simple, positive energy is where everything starts. Our mentors mean the world to us because they show up authentically.

Being outside in the sunshine, sharing a bit of fun and enjoying the community, removes all the pressure. It creates the perfect, safe environment for young blokes to practice essential social skills without even realising it.

They learn how to read non-verbal cues (like that encouraging smile!), how to engage positively, and how to feel comfortable in a supportive group. The young men gain not just new social skills, but the invaluable confidence that comes from having reliable, smiling faces backing them every step of the way.

Our program balance is non-negotiable: focussed connection requires active fun.

That means when the weather's good, we're outside first, throwing the footy around. The quick, energetic burst of kicking the footy around under the sun before we head back to the hub is more than just a warm-up. It's a strategic move.

It helps young blokes burn off restless energy, clears the head of the day's drama, and builds instant, positive connection through shared physical activity and a good laugh. When they come back to the hub, they are relaxed, and ready to engage in the deeper social and communication skills work of the night out program. It makes the transition seamless and the connection inside far more genuine.

The reward is a program that works smarter. By valuing both the physical need for movement and the mental need for focus, we teach the young men the importance of balance. They gain improved physical health, reduced stress, and the ability to switch gears successfully: a key life skills that ensures they are always ready to show up fully, whether on the field or at the table.

In a world where 'connecting' often means a quick scroll, we focus on the slow, deliberate work of meaningful interaction.

Putting down the phone and looking a mate in the eye: that's a superpower, and it's the foundation of everything we build. We use simple settings of a deck of cards, a shared dinner table, as intentional tools to create a distraction-free space.

These low-key activities naturally force them to engage in critical social skills: listening actively, waiting their turn, asking clarifying questions, and managing conversation. It teaches them that their presence and attention are the greatest gifts they can give a mate.

The outcome isn't just winning a game; it's learning to truly connect beneath the surface.

12/11/2025

Watch to see how throwing a footy around with mates transforms into much more than just a game, it's the best way young blokes build unbreakable support and genuine confidence in a safe environment. In this fun, low-pressure setting, they learn how to cheer loudly for others, offer constructive help without judgment, and pick a mate up when they drop the ball. We've intentionally created a safe space where the focus is on effort and character, not just talent. This is where they practice being reliable, supportive friends.

The best part of friendship often isn't what you're doing, but who you're doing nothing with.

For our guys, "hanging out" often means sitting side-by-side, joking, and collaborating in a digital world. That easy, comfortable presence is the foundation of genuine brotherhood. This is where the good stuff starts. What kicks off as a shared love for a game quickly becomes a safe space to properly connect.

They're not just strategising about the next level; they’re learning how to communicate under pressure, back a mate up when things go pear-shaped, and celebrate a big win together. These foundational friendships provide essential peer support, a real sense of belonging, and the confidence that comes from having a reliable crew.
