Your mind has a way of filling in the blanks about birth

Usually with worst-case scenarios & if you’re pregnant, it’s almost impossible not to go there sometimes

But the good news is, your mind isn’t stuck with those pictures

You can actually feed it different stories about birth

& your body responds to that in really beautiful ways

Instead of this:
I'm scared of the unknown

Try this:
I might not know exactly what’s coming, but I’m not walking into birth blind. I trust that I am well prepared to make informed decisions whatever happens

Instead of this:
I feel alone in this

Try this:
I’m allowed to ask for support, plus I’m following in the footsteps of many women who have done this before me

Instead of this:
I don’t know if I’ll handle the pain

Try this:
I don’t need to cope with the whole birth...

Just the next contraction

Instead of this:
I'm failing if I ask for help or need intervention

Try this:
I know what's best for me & my baby. asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness

Instead of this:
What if something goes wrong?

Try this:
I can prepare for different possibilities without assuming the worst will happen

When doubt pops up & your mind starts wobbling, your strength is not cancelled

Both can exist at the same time

You've got this, mumma!

PS. Welcome to my little part of the internet where I share the kind of stuff I wish more women heard during pregnancy, not perfect birth stories, not scary ones either, just real, steady ways to feel more prepared, no matter how your birth actually unfolds

Most pregnant mums I talk to aren’t terrified of birth
They’re just overwhelmed
Too many opinions, too many horror stories, too many “what ifs” playing in their head

And wow! Doesn't that make so much sense?

What I've noticed again & again is that with the right preparation & support, you can STOP feeling overwhelmed & START feeling empowered, confident, & supported as you get ready for birth

I’ve given birth 5 times myself, & I’ve spent 23+ years sitting beside women in birth

What I share here isn’t noise or trends, it’s the stuff that actually helps when it’s your turn

If you’re ready to feel less overwhelmed & more grounded about birth, I’ve put together an online birth course that walks you through this, step by step. Comment TOGETHER & I'll send you the link

Hey birth partners,

It’s a big deal being a birth support to the woman you love, & having been supported by my husband 5 times through labour, I know it’s a huge deal to us pregnant mums to know that our birth partners are not only present, but also willing to connect, understand, & be our strength when we need you the most.

Here are my top tips for birth partner to really amp up your support:

1. Whisper some authentic positive affirmations. Trust me, words uplift our spirits more than anything!

2. Stay close. Put your hand on her, solid & reassuring, it says “I’ve got you babe” without words.

3. Protect the birth space. We love a little cocoon of peace, without interruptions.

4. Don’t just be there, be fully present, no scrolling on your phone.

5. Breathe with her. Match her rhythm or lead her if she’s getting lost.

6. Hydrate & nourish her with snacks & drinks.

7. Play her favourite music.

8. Put a cold face washer on her forehead when things get intense.

9. Put heat packs on her lower back for amazing pain relief.

10. Rock, sway, & move in sync with her.

11. Just hold her. It’s as simple & profound as that.

12. And finally, advocate for her. Be her voice when she might not have the strength to use hers.

Tell me mums, which of these resonates most with you?

And, birth partners, if you want to learn about all the stages of labour, including how to identify which stage she’s in, what she might be doing, saying, & feeling, & what kind of emotional & physical support she’ll need from you…

If you’re honest…

is it really birth that scares you

or is it the version of birth you’ve been shown over & over again

Movies have basically taught us that birth is just screaming, chaos, & someone yelling “WE HAVE TO GO, NOW” while racing to the hospital like the baby’s about to arrive in the car park

that’s probably the picture in your head too, right?

But what if i told you, as a birth doula who's been in the birth space for 23+ years...

that’s not the kind of birth I see

I see something different....

I see Women who are focused, inward, grounded & calm, sometimes emotional; but not out of control

Not panic
Not flailing
Not really even fear

Even when birth is intense (especially when birth is intense) I see women who are not chaotic in the way movies make it look

I see women who’ve trained their mind to stay calm instead of fighting against the process of birth

I see women who trust themselves to make the right decisions for their unique situations

Yes, birth can be powerful
Yes, it’s unpredictable
But chaos isn’t a requirement

You get to write a different story

It starts with what you feed your mind

That’s why I made a FREE download of real, positive birth videos, so you can finally see what calm, empowered birth actually looks like

So you can start seeing birth the way it actually can be, not the way it’s shown in movies

Most mums don’t even realise how much the media has shaped their fear around giving birth

When you’ve only ever seen birth as chaos…

Of course your body tenses

Of course your mind spirals

Of course you don’t feel calm; it’s not what you’ve seen

But the truth is...

Birth CAN be steady

Birth CAN be instinctive

Birth CAN feel safe

That’s what mindset work in pregnancy is all about - it's preparing your mind to cope when things get intense (not resort to panic)

And if you’ve never seen birth look like anything but a medical emergency…

Start here 👇

Comment "2MINS" & I'll send you the link to watch heaps of positive birth videos

Just a couple of minutes a day is all it takes to start changing the way your brain sees birth

These videos will show you what a mum actually looks, sounds, & moves like when she’s in labour, as she's calm, focused, & trusting herself

These links are super oxytocin-boosting & easy to watch, I’ll send them straight to your inbox

This is what mindset prep really looks like

Visualising your birth can sound a bit strange at first, I know

But honestly, it’s one of the easiest ways to feel less scared & more steady about what’s ahead

When you’ve already “walked through” it in your mind, it feels less unknown, even if things don’t go exactly to plan

Think of how athletes prepare for a big event...

They don’t just train physically - they visualise all the moves & all the possibilities, so when they finally step onto the field, it feels familiar & they've got a game plan

They’ve rehearsed it in their mind so many times that it feels LESS LIKE something brand new & MORE LIKE a memory they’re stepping into

This can also work for labour

Keep running through all the different scenarios until it feels like a memory you’re recalling

Picture each possibility, feel yourself breathing, moving, adapting, responding

By the time your birth day arrives, your body & mind will feel at home in the experience

It won’t feel so foreign; it’ll feel like something you’ve already seen, prepared for, & know you can handle

If you’d like to dive deeper into this & gain the tools to feel confident & ready for all the possibilities, sign yourself up to my Together We Birth online, self-paced course & let’s get you ready for everything 🤍

When she’s in labour, is “just being there” enough?

Here are some tips for birth partners

Supporting someone through labour is a big deal, right?

Yep!

And you don’t want to just be standing there feeling helpless...

So, how can you do your best?

Well, I’ve asked mums what they want from their birth partners & this is what they’ve said…

"I really need you to be fully present; scrolling on your phone doesn't count"

"Tell me I'm doing well, remind me that I’m strong & I‘m doing it"

"When I can't find the words, speak up for me, make sure my birth preferences are heard & respected"

"Remember to offer me sips of water or juice or something between contractions"

"When the pain gets more intense, guide me back to my breathing"

"Be in charge of the music, play stuff you know I love"

"Give me gentle massage, & damp cloths on my forehead, & help me move around"

"If I'm losing it, be a calm anchor for me, I need your strength to get through the intense moments"

"Stay tuned to me; I don‘t know if I‘ll want interaction or quiet focus, but i want you to stay tuned in & stay close by"

So, birth partners, if you've ever wondered what she wants when she's in labour, & you only remember ONE thing, remember it's all about connection.

If you forget all the stuff & you're just right there for her, right by her, watching for what you can do next that makes her feel loved & supported - that's enough.

That's what she'll remember.

✨ I’ve created a FREE guide for birth partners so they can learn what you need & what they can do to BE YOUR BEST SUPPORT, leaving you to get on with giving birth feeling fully supported, protected & safe

If you’re pregnant & can spare just 10 minutes a day get yourself ready for labour

(so that when you feel those first contractions you are confident & ready instead of fearful & uncertain)

Thennn, you’re in the perfect spot!

Welcome

I’ve given birth 5 times & in this space, I share daily encouragement so you can also learn how to make birth less scary

Anddd, I know that giving birth can be unpredictable, & that it feels hard to prepare for something when you don’t know how it’s going to pan out

But, there are lots of things you can do to help your chances of having a positive birth experience

⏰ Spend 3 mins deep breathing

And I mean deep, slow breathing. where you breathe in through your nose, let your belly fully expand, then breathe out slowly through your mouth

In for a count of 4, out for a count of 7.

This helps calm your mind & when you’re in labour it’ll make the intensity of contractions easier to handle

⏰ Spend 3 mins visualising

Imagine your body during labour. imagine yourself handling contractions calmly. imagine meeting your baby for the first time

Visualisation is powerful. Athletes use this technique to prepare mentally for a big game or race, you can do it for labour to help reduce anxiety & build a positive mindset towards birth

⏰ Spend 2 mins Gently Stretching

Gentle stretches relieve tension in your lower back, hips, & pelvis - areas that can become pretty tight & stressed during pregnancy & labour

Google these & alternate, choosing 2 a day

⭑ Cat-cow stretch
⭑ Seated piriformis stretch
⭑ Pregnancy-safe forward fold
⭑ Side lying release
⭑ Butterfly stretch
⭑ Hip flexor stretch

⏰ Spend 2 mins watching positive birth videos

Just a couple of minutes a day & this’ll build your confidence & give you heaps of insight into what a mum looks, sounds, & moves like when she’s in labour

So, you’re pregnant?

Firstly, congratulations

(but also, what now?)

If you only remember one thing

Remember this...

You are a mammal & mammals are born with instinct

You already know how to birth your baby

Deep inside you, there’s a primal knowledge you were born with, that understands what to do when it comes to giving birth

(Just as it knows how to grow your baby right now)

BUT, we’re living in a time where this natural instinct can become confused

When you’re pregnant, it can start to feel like other people know better than you do

Like you should double-check your instincts
Get reassurance
Wait to be told what’s okay

And somewhere along the way, birth stops feeling like something you’re designed for & starts feeling like something that’s going to happen to you

Medical support is valuable
Of course it is

& alongside it, there’s the information coming from inside your own body

The sensations only you feel
The subtle yes’s & no’s
The feeling of “this feels right” or “this doesn’t”

Those signals are part of how you make decisions as a mammal

You don’t have to choose between them
You can listen to both of them

If you’d like the guidance of a mother who's walked the path before you & continues to walk it every day as a doula with mums just like you...

Especially If you’re ready to feel confident, prepared, & EXCITED for the birth of your baby

And, want to change your relationship with fear, then I’m really here for you...

If you like my content, you will LOVE my online course 🤎

It's like having me with you showing you exactly how to find & reclaim your inner strength & grab hold of the instinct that is already part of your biology

I’ve been around birth for a long time...

the women who cope best aren’t the ones who know the most

They're the ones who trust themselves enough to just stop for a minute & feel into what’s happening

They notice their shoulders
Their jaw
Their breath

& before they do anything else, they take a breath with themselves & soften the parts of them that are tense

In the intensity
In the unfamiliar
In the fatigue & frustration & overwhelm

They have a quiet sense of confidence that says “I can stay with myself here”

It’s an extremely powerful coping mechanism

You’ve probably already been doing the things you’re “meant” to do.

Sorting
Preparing
Researching

And maybe that feels mostly fine…
until you actually picture yourself in labour

Not the plan
Not the room

YOU

Your body
The sensations
What you'll do when things get intense

If there’s even a small part of you that wonders “Will I be able to stay with myself?” gosh, do I understand!

That question comes from a nervous system that wants steadiness before it relaxes

That’s the work I care about

If you feel drawn to preparing in a way that’s quieter, more internal, less about knowing more & more about staying with yourself

You can comment READY & I’ll send you the link to my mindset course for labour

Pregnant again…

Firstly, congratulations!

Everyone is saying “You must be so excited!”

And you are

You really are

But your body still remembers last time

And there’s another layer to contend with

The part of you that:

→ Gets a flashback when you smell hospital disinfectant
→ Knows your chest tightens when you walk into antenatal appointments
→ Googles things you didn’t Google last time
→ Can’t finish out loud parts of your birth story

Your body is not being “silly” or “making a fuss” or “being dramatic”

It’s remembering

That’s what nervous systems do

In Birth Made Calm,(my free 90 minute masterclass) I’m here to help you understand & untangle:

→ What your mind & body were trying to do for you last time
→ Why certain moments feel so big
→ How mindset, safety & support can change the way this next birth feels

Birth doesn’t feel safer just because time has passed

It feels safer when you gently explore what your mind & body were trying to do for you…

And how to prepare differently this time.

If you’re pregnant again & thinking, “I can’t go through what I went through last time…”

Everyone thinks you’re ‘fine’ about birth…

but your Google history says otherwise

Your Google tabs tell the real story:

🔎 birth pain compared to other pain
🔎 how to mentally prepare for birth
🔎 what if i panic during contractions
🔎 how do i know if i’ll cope in labour
🔎 what happens if i lose control

You close the tabs…
but your body remembers the questions

There’s no shortage of information…

But you’re not looking for more facts

What you really want is reassurance

Someone to show you how to feel safe in your body when you’re in labour

You want to know how to calm your nervous system

Understanding what your mind does in labour is the part almost no class explains

When your mind feels unsafe,
your brain goes into problem-solving overdrive...
scrolling, searching, spiralling

When your mind feels supported,
your whole body softens…

& positive birth starts to feel possible

After 23+ years supporting women through every kind of birth, & having had 5 babies myself, I can tell you this:

You don’t need to “fix” your Google history

You need to understand what your mind is actually trying to do (protect you)

I’ll teach you how to work with that, not against it

If your Google search bar feels like the only place you can ask your real questions…

It’s time for a better way

Join Birth Made Calm, my free 90-minute masterclass that shows you how to feel steady, safe, & calm in your body & your mind when you’re giving birth

It’s 2:47am, & you’re lying there wide awake, scrolling on your phone in the glow of the nightlight

Maybe it’s the pregnancy hormones, but it’s probably also your little one busily having a dance party, tiny feet pushing into your ribs that’s keeping you awake when the rest of the house is asleep

Your belly feels tight, your back aches, but the biggest stress is your racing mind:

Will I know when it’s time?

What will labour actually be like?

What if something goes wrong?

You wonder if you’ve read enough, prepared enough, or if you’ll even know what to do when the time comes

You know that every birth is different but you don’t know how to do this birth yet & all the “what if’s” & unknowns are creeping in

Oh, mumma, let me shout this!

YOU WERE DESIGNED TO GIVE BIRTH!

You’ve got everything you need inside you already

You absolutely have what it takes to do this

You were made for this, & when the time comes, your strength will show up, you’ll rise to meet it, even if you don’t feel it yet

Back yourself, you’ve got this

Love, your birth coach, Bonnie 🤎
