According to the IBD State of the Nation report, without any action taken, the economic burden of IBD in Australia will be $77.9 billion over 10 years.

To achieve significant change and ensure people have equitable access to best practice, integrated care, the top 3 priorities for implementation by 2030 include:

Improving access to multi-disciplinary care,
Improving access to novel therapies, and
Investing in IBD research.
CCA hopes to use the new data presented in the report to support increased investment by government and funders to address the gaps in IBD health care.

"Living with the burden of IBD takes a huge toll on Australians. The report detailed that 70% of people with IBD are experiencing fatigue and/or brain fog, 48% are experiencing anxiety and/or depression, 31% are experiencing insomnia, and there is poor access to multidisciplinary care for people to receive the care that they need.

There are also long times to diagnosis, with more than one in three people waiting over a year to receive a diagnosis. Once diagnosed, 41% of people took more than 5 years to get their symptoms under control. IBD-related expenses are significant, with the out-of-pocket cost for individuals estimated to be $5,900 per person per year.

IBD also has significant health, economic, and social costs to Australia, equating to $7.8 billion in 2025. Without any action taken, the economic burden of IBD in Australia will be $77.9 billion over 10 years."

Living with the burden of IBD takes a huge toll on Australians.

The State of the Nation into IBD report detailed that 70% of people with IBD are experiencing fatigue and/or brain fog, 48% are experiencing anxiety and/or depression, 31% are experiencing insomnia, and there is poor access to multidisciplinary care for people to receive the care that they need.

Without any action taken, the economic burden of IBD in Australia will be $77.9 billion over 10 years.

Despite its increasing prevalence, IBD remains significantly underfunded, and is the only major chronic condition in Australia without dedicated government funding for patient support.

Funds raised through the Live Fearless Challenge helps fill this gap by funding vital research, providing ongoing support services, and advocating for better care and outcomes for people living with IBD.

Just wanted to share this with you all...

As most of you know, I have a chronic illness called Crohn’s Disease which I have been having to live with since I was diagnosed with it at the age of 11 years. I have been through a lot already with it all whilst growing up - all the tests (bloods, MRI’s, Colonoscopies), surgery (two bowel resections), infusions (Infliximab, Iron, Stelara), medication (Mercaptopurine tablets, Humira injections and now Stelara injections), vitamin B12 injections.

Living with this kind of illness does affect me emotionally, mentally and physically. In the earlier years when I was first diagnosed, I was very unhealthy with loss of appetite which caused weight loss, lack of development with growth and puberty and my own self esteem was just pretty low. I felt like my life was an absolute mess and was freaked out by what was happening.

I still have a Gastroenterologist specialist team who help me to manage my Crohn’s with the right medication and to keep an eye on how it’s going to make sure there’s not too much flare up of inflammation on my intestines. I occasionally see a Dietitian at times to help with my diet in order to limit any more flares.
I feel like my medical centre and the hospital are my second homes haha 😂

These days I am a lot happier now that I am full of gratitude for everything that I do have in my life amongst surrounding myself with good people 🥰 I do have my bad days and my good days, just like any other normal person, but I always strive to look at the positive things in life ❤️

I have a lovely gorgeous little daughter who is my absolute rock. Whenever I am having bad days I look at her and know that I have to keep pushing on for not only just myself, but also for her too.

I have supportive family and friends, which I am very grateful for!

Since joining a network marketing company called Arbonne in March 2021 (starting my own business), it has really changed me into a better person, the type of person I want to be, and for that I am truely grateful 💖 I’ve not only been able to connect and start helping people with their health goals and financial opportunity, but I’ve also been able to work on my own self development which I absolutely love doing, because it has given me a lot more confidence within myself to just go for anything I want out of life. I absolutely love the supportive community of people that I get to work with, as they give me support, positivity, strength and the belief and desire to become the best person I can be. I get to surround myself with like minded people who only want the best for each other with drive and determination.

By sharing this, I hope that I have inspired anyone to know that no matter what difficulties you may be facing in your life, you can definitely get through it by looking at life differently in a more positive light. You can do anything and be the person you want to be.

Mindset is everything ✨

I myself have to have regular vitamin B12 injections once every 3 months to keep my levels up

Conditions like Crohn's disease can hinder the absorption of B12, resulting in symptoms such as tiredness, fatigue, dizziness, and irritability.

If you're not feeling your best, consult with a doctor. CCA's helpline is also here to offer assistance.

As a reminder, always consult your GP or specialist before starting a new supplement or making any dietary changes.
