If you've come to this page, and you want to join our wonderful peer events group, it's really simple. You just click on the button 'visit group'.

Once you're at the group page, there's a few questions to answer, and you must agree to the group rules as well. So if you can't see the group rules, scroll the page down a little bit.

Our admin team has a few automatic procedures in place so we don't have be in the group all the time. So if your membership request is declined, it's probably because you've not done everything required. If you need to get help with joining the group, please try to ask a family member, a friend or other supports you may have.

We are here to help you with any issues you may have joining our group. So please ask us if you need assistance. You can message any admin directly. We will do out best to get back to you asap.

We hope to see lots more of you joining soon, and getting to some wonderful events to build an enjoyable, fulfilling life. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Who and what is the IDEAL GROUP?

IDEAL:Inclusive Disabilities โ€“ Events & Activities Listings is a Perth-based peer support group. We aim to be a centralised location that share activities, events & any other listings that might assist persons with any disability, their support workers, friends and families to build their own experiences and plan their days.

We source these events, activities and listings from various places that encourage and support inclusion, diversity and equality.

They are also by located within the Perth metropolitan region from Yanchep in the North, in Mandurah in the south and East including Armadale, in Gosnells, Byford, Aubin Grove and the Hills Districts of Kalamunda, Mundaring, Chidlow and the Helena Valley.

โ€œwhat should we do today?โ€ is a common question for most people. But for people with disabilities, it's even more difficult to find accessible, inclusive and relevant things to do and ENJOY.

Our vision for IDEAL is that a person with a disability can access the page and be able to see what activities, events or ideas are available for them to attend or participate in. The process to join any activity is simplified as we aim to include ready, accessible information.

IDEAL Group has changed the way we approve memberships. All intending members must answer all questions and agree to the group rules or your approval will be automatically declined after one hour. We understand we will loose some intending members with this decision, which wasn't easy to make. However, we were spending so much time messaging people over and over again that it was taking us away from the time needed to post events. Just because you are declined the one time, it doesn't mean you are declined forever, and you are most welcome to reapply.

There are important reasons for our questions and group rules. The questions help us understand what kind of member is joining (ie. Pwd, support workers, families, etc); and where they are located helps us research events for those areas. The group rules are there to protect you, the members of this group from harm and exploitation. We gave a lot of thought into the how they are worded, and we are serious and committed to taking great care of our members to our best ability.

Good Evening IDEAL Members, We have a big, exciting announcement to make. Drum Roll please๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿฅ.

The IDEAL group has been given a small grant from Connect Groups & Lotterywest to develop a website.

Why a website?

Because this group has grown faster than we ever anticipated, and it's now not as straightforward or accessible as it used to be to find events.
And we want to make the group public, so more of our wonderful community of persons with disabilities can find us and get the benefits of our group.

We have wonderful plans for this group's continued future, which will likely include newsletters and possibly our own events. We are here to stay, Perth people. Our commitment and passion remain to help others live the rich and fulfilling lives we all deserve to enjoy.

What about the Facebook group?

The Facebook group will continue to be active; however, we will relocate recurring events to the website. Events that are workshops, short programs, special presentations will continue to be posted in the Facebook group. And members can also continue to use the Facebook group to ask for events or suggestions based on their area, disability or interests.

Feedback?

Let us know in the comments your thoughts. Do you like this change we are making, or not? Do you think having a website will make it easier for you to plan your days? Or do you prefer the Facebook group? Do you have any suggestions or ideas for us that you like us to consider?

We're hugely excited about this bold move forward. We feel it's a good step and that we are ready. There may also be opportunities for some of our members to be involved in the very near future in assisting our team.

I'm getting so excited as we now have 468 members. Can you give me and ALL the members here the BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT๐ŸŽ…๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ and let's get to 500 members by Christmas next week? Please could you invite people or service providers you might know that would really benefit from this group? 2022 could be a challenging year for some of us with ongoing NDIS reforms happening, our borders opening in February and just LIFE happening for all of us.

But the benefits of social connection, inclusivity, doing something interesting, exciting and fun cannot be under-estimated in the value and feeling it gives us to enrich our lives.

Members of this group are already connecting with each other, planning events and activities and sharing ideas. It's so fantastic to see. You're all so amazing!! โฃ๏ธโฃ๏ธโฃ๏ธโฃ๏ธ
