I donât know about you, but when I am on some sort of coaching or business zoom call, where I am not directly participating i.e. being the practitioner, I canât help but check out what is in someone 's background. đ
These days, people can blur out their backgrounds â which then gets me wondering what donât they want me to see, how they feel about that, and so much more! When the point is, you can be virtual no matter where you are with little distraction to the viewer.
Then there is the virtual background, which I then usually am busy watching the pixels come and go as the head moves and hair disappears.
I am cerainly not knocking either of these, there is a time and a place and these options are certainly helpful.
Me, I am old school, so this is what you get. My background is full of little âtreasuresâ that remind me every day of my family and it helps create a working space that I enjoy and feel relaxed and able to switch into my zone of genius.

If giving up more food or sleep hasn't worked, here's why: Most women focus on the symptom, never the silent signals their body is sending.
I see this pattern everywhere: Women cutting breakfast, skipping lunch, staying up late to get everything done, then wondering why they feel terrible and can't lose weight.
Sound familiar?
We've been taught that less food + less rest = better results.
But your body doesn't work like a simple math equation.
My client Maria was eating 1200 calories and working out six days a week. She was exhausted, cranky, and gaining weight.
"I'm doing everything right," she told me. "Why isn't this working?"
Here's what Maria didn't know: Her body was in protection mode.
When you're under-eating and under-resting, your body thinks there's a famine coming. So it holds onto every calorie and slows everything down to keep you safe.

When you start working with your bodyânot fighting itâweight loss, calmer days, and real rest are just the beginning.
To be honest, Iâve always been reasonably fit and active and weight gain has never really been an issue, that was until I hit menopause.
So, what did I do? Everything that everyone else was doing?
Fighting cravings. Forcing workouts when I was exhausted. Ignoring hunger. Pushing through pain.
My body was the enemy, and I was determined to win.
I never won. I just got more tired, more frustrated, and further from feeling like myself.
Everything changed when I stopped fighting and started listening.
My body wasn't being difficult. It was trying to protect me.
The cravings? My body was asking for specific nutrients I wasn't giving it.
The fatigue? My nervous system begging for rest I kept denying.
The stubborn weight? My body holding on because it thought I was under threat.
When I started working WITH my body instead of against it, magic happened.
Not Instagram magic, but it felt like real magic. I woke up energised. Food became simple and satisfying. Exercise felt good instead of punishing.
The weight loss was almost a side effect of feeling amazing.

I spent a couple of years convinced I'd lost all self-control.
Same salads. Same walks. Same "good choices" I'd always made. But my waist bands kept getting tighter and the scale kept creeping up, ever so slightly gram by gram.

Feel like you are literally spinning out and going round and round, getting absolutely nowhere?
Why is that? Well, what I've learned after 20+ years as a naturopath working specifically with menopausal women is the biggest mistake we make is treating our changing bodies like they're still 20 and something along the way has broken.
We keep going back to what we used to do âway back thenâ, that would drop a few kilos in a week to zip up those skinny jeans for Saturday night.
Your metabolism isn't "slow," it's confused. Your hormones aren't "out of whack," they're different now, less of some, more accommodating of others. The result is a build up of fluid, body fat â usually the belly is the biggest reservoir.

A long time ago, about 15 years, while studying Natural Medicine, I began a real healing journey of my own. I would have loved a Fairy Godmother then, which is probably why I am so committed to helping you now.
One day I woke with a massively swollen knee. As there was no movement in the leg, I needed a cane to walk and it took a year to rehabilitate. I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis, with an alarming prognosis of crippled hands, feet and wheelchair confinement unless I took immune suppressants drugs. Ugh, not happy, and not compliant to those drugs.
I suffered as each knee took itâs turn over the years and each time I conquered them without the drugs. Until the last time, when both knees went together. Excruciating pain, fear and depression for months I endured. Succumbing to only 6 months of Methotrexate, I got myself out of the hell and well with diet and determination.
Now, reaching mid-life myself, I can see so clearly that it is so much more important that you look after yourselves, your mind, your body, your life.
