Every day, your brain juggles memory, focus, problem-solving, and decision-making, often without you even noticing. Small changes in these areas can quietly affect work, relationships, confidence, and daily routines.

A brief cognitive assessment gives you a snapshot of how your brain is functioning, highlighting both strengths and areas that might benefit from support. It can provide insight, clarity, and practical strategies to help you feel more confident and in control.

Whether you’re noticing subtle shifts in memory with age, or are feeling mentally slower after accident, stress or illness, or just want a baseline for your cognitive health, understanding how your brain is performing is a proactive step toward wellbeing.

Our clinical neuropsychologist at J&R Psych can offer a brief cognitive assessment and help you gain clarity about your thinking, focus, and memory.

As the seasons change, so can our energy, motivation, and mood. Shorter days, cooler mornings, and the grind of work, study, or school routines can leave some of us feeling more tired, irritable, or low in mood - and that’s quite common. 🍂

Strategies like re-establishing sleep routines, getting morning sunlight, moving your body, being socially proactive, and checking in with yourself can make a big difference. If low mood, anxiety or irritability persist, check in with a health professional.

Sleep difficulties in children and teens can affect the whole family. When nights are disrupted, learning, mood and behaviour during the day often follow.

We’re looking forward to this upcoming AACBT WA Branch masterclass presented by Paul Jeffery from J&R Clinical Psychology.

Paul will cover Cognitive Behavioural sleep interventions for children, teens and families. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is a structured, evidence-based approach that targets the patterns that keep sleep problems going. It focuses on practical strategies that are grounded in decades of research.

If you work with young people and families and want to deepen your understanding of behavioural sleep approaches, this is a valuable professional development opportunity. Sleep is not just a nighttime issue. It shapes mood, learning, regulation and family wellbeing in powerful ways.

Adolescence is a time of rapid change — emotionally, socially and neurologically. Teens are learning who they are, how they fit in, and how to manage growing pressures from school, friendships, expectations and the online world.

Big emotions, mood swings, withdrawal or risk-taking behaviours are often part of this stage, but they can also signal that a young person is struggling and doesn’t yet have the tools or language to ask for help.

Adolescent psychologists provide a safe, confidential space where teens can talk openly, build emotional regulation skills, and develop healthier ways to cope with stress, anxiety and change. Support isn’t about “fixing” teenagers — it’s about helping them feel understood, capable and supported as they grow.

Today, on Mental Health Nurses Day, we recognise the vital contribution of mental health nurses across hospitals, community services and primary care.

This year’s theme, , reflects a powerful global call for nurses to reclaim their professional identity, drive meaningful transformation, and lead mental health care reform. It speaks to resisting stigma, insisting on high quality, compassionate care, and persisting alongside people and systems to improve outcomes.

Mental health support is delivered by many professions, each bringing different expertise. We thank the mental health nurses in our community for their leadership, advocacy and commitment to those they support.

Concerned about memory, attention, or mental clarity?

Maybe you’re finding it harder to concentrate, forgetting things more often, or feeling mentally slower than you used to. These changes can be unsettling.

A brief cognitive assessment can help make sense of what’s going on. It provides a targeted look at key thinking skills such as memory, attention, processing speed and problem-solving, helping to identify strengths, changes, and areas that may need support.

Our clinical neuropsychologist uses validated test results to provide feedback and practical recommendations, so you’re not left guessing about next steps. Whether changes are linked to stress, health, ageing, injury, or another life transition, understanding your cognitive profile can help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
