🤍💎 Remembering Hannah Nydahl 🤍 (17.4.1946 to 1.4.2007)

Hannah devoted her life to establishing Tibetan around the world, together with her husband, Lama Ole Nydahl. She was widely respected for her work, devotion and accomplishments within the Buddhist community.

A Danish newspaper referred to her as the “Mother of Buddhism.”

Almost exactly three months after her cancer diagnosis, Hannah passed away whilst in meditation. Her legacy lives on in the people she touched and the centres she and Lama Ole started during more than 35 years of work.

“I’m very grateful to both of them and of course to Hannah in particular,” says Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, leader of the Karma Kagyu lineage. “Now there are thousands and thousands of practitioners. They have connected those families, thousands of families, with the most precious Dharma. They have connected that. Tied the knot. And I think that’s amazing.”

Message from the 17th Karmapa on Lama Ole's birthday ❤️

Thaye Dorje, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa, shares the following message on the occasion of the 85th birthday of Lama Ole Nydahl.

Dear Dharma friends,

Today marks the 85th birthday of our dear Lama Ole.

For more than fifty years, Lama Ole has dedicated his life to practicing and sharing the Buddha Dharma. Over the course of these many years, he has inspired countless individuals through his example and offered them access to the Dharma, the Buddha’s teaching.

This precious activity has accumulated immense joy and merit, and I deeply rejoice in the vast benefit for both our Karma Kagyu lineage and innumerable sentient beings.

On the auspicious occasion of his 85th birthday, I offer my prayers to the Karma Kagyu lineage masters, as well as to the longevity aspect of White Tara, to bless and protect Lama Ole, and I invite all of my students to join me in these prayers.

"The idea of a spiritual teacher is far from most people’s experience. Many know teachers in school, but not as a companion in ordinary life.

However, all people share their desire for happiness. Although an unlimited number of people try to reach this goal, only very few succeed.

In , we are fortunate to have men and women who know true happiness and who want to share their experience."
- Buddhism Today Magazine

Today, we wish our dear Lama Ole Nydahl the happiest of birthdays. 🎂 Long life, Lama! Thank you for sharing your experience.

What's the goal of Buddhism?

“The goal [of Buddhism] is very simple. To bring forth all the qualities we have inside; all the possibilities, all the richness. That all these qualities be developed inside us for the benefit of all.”

💎 Taking refuge is something that all beings do. Every person in the world is looking for happiness, but most seek it in the outer world - in fame, their career, partnership, house, etc. One can't deny that these things give us satisfaction, but these sources of happiness are not lasting.

Buddha taught that the real source of refuge is not the outer, changing world, or even our inner changing thoughts and feelings - but Mind itself.

The independent film explores the profound bond between teacher and student and follows Lama Ole and his wife Hannah, who became key figures in bringing Tibetan Buddhism to the West.
