🌱 The original idea for this reflection comes from Jeffrey Young, founder of Schema Therapy and author of Reinventing Your Life.
🌱 Young explains that we are often drawn to people who trigger our early schemas or life traps. These are patterns formed in childhood when emotional needs were not met.
🌱 He describes how many people are instinctively pulled toward emotionally distant or unavailable partners because the familiarity of that experience feels like home, even when it brings pain. Without realising it, we try to resolve the past by repeating it.
🌱 In this way, the strongest sense of chemistry is not always a sign of connection or safety. It can be an old wound being activated.
🌱 A reimagined quote that captures this idea is: β€œWhen you feel instant and intense chemistry with someone, it is often not love at first sight. It is your childhood wounds recognising each other.”
