✨ Making mealtimes magical ✨

This unicorn-themed creation supported pressure-free, client-directed exploration of new foods, using a love of unicorns to spark curiosity and engagement. 🦄

Together, we explored new foods at their own pace:
🥕 Carrot
🍎 Apple
🥝 Kiwi

No pressure to eat — just looking, touching, smelling, and interacting. When children feel safe and in control, they’re more willing to explore and build positive experiences with food.

Playful, interest-based food activities can help:
✨ reduce mealtime anxiety
✨ increase willingness to interact with new foods
✨ support sensory exploration
✨ build positive food relationships

Because sometimes the first step isn’t tasting… it’s just playing.

Neurodivergent children often see the world in creative, curious and wonderful ways. When we nurture those differences, amazing things happen ⭐️

Picnic time in speech therapy at Next Challenge 🧸💜

Our pretend play kits are one of our favourite ways to support language development through play. Setting up a picnic together creates so many opportunities for communication — choosing foods, offering items to friends, and talking about what everyone is doing 🙌🏼

During play we can model new words, build longer sentences, practise turn-taking and explore early storytelling — all while having fun together ⭐️

When a child “flips their lid”, it’s a sign they’re feeling overwhelmed 💜

In those big moments, their nervous system is working hard to cope. Their thinking brain takes a back seat while their feeling brain steps in to protect them.

When a child feels safe and understood, their thinking brain can come back online ⭐️

At Next Challenge we believe therapy is most powerful when families are at the heart of it 💜

We see parents and caregivers as the experts in their child’s life ⭐️
The biggest gains happen in everyday moments — when new skills are practised during play, supported through routines, and celebrated at home 🏡

By working together, we build confidence not just in the children we work with, but in the whole family — supporting them to feel empowered, supported and ready to thrive ✨💡
