Hospital Update
Hailey had her major burns clinic appointment today.
We went into today under the impression we would be told if Hailey would need further surgery (more rounds of laser) or go back into her garments. We felt like some of her scars had risen in her 6 month break and therefore the likely hood of one of those options happening today.
However, we were told her scars looked amazing. They were very happy and therefore no more surgery (for now) and no need for garments. She will now only need to have check ups 6 monthly moving forward. And it's so they can monitor a couple things and address them when needed.
1) Her hair line - When she first had her skin grafts we were told the hair follicles on her head were all intact and her hair would all grow back. Unfortunately some of her hair (mostly along the hairline) didn't grow back. They said they do have a surgery they can perform which will cut along her hair line and move the skin forward and fix it. However it's not something they do at a young age as the incision tends to scar bad on younger patients. So will be done once she's older.
2) Her right ear - it's pinned back to her head. Not something that needs immediate fixing. They will just release the skin. They said it will be something they fix once she is old enough to ask for it or wants to wear sunglasses. They can perform it earlier if she does end up needing to wear prescription glasses though. This isn't something I thought of, the way her ear is currently unfortunately doesn't allow her to wear glasses.
3) Tightness/Scarring - There are two spots (under her right arm/torso and her right calf muscle) where the skin grafts are a little tight. They said as she grows they will get tighter (restrictive scar banding I think) and may restrict her movement. They will perform surgeries to release this and help her skin stretch. They estimated it's probably not likely to start happening for another year or two.
4) Raised scars - she has a couple raised scars on the back of her arm and that's why we thought she would need to go back in garments. We were told these are normal and will stretch and flatten as she grows.

All positive news for ❤️

Accidental Milestone Achieved 🎉
We had a little mishap this morning that found us without Hailey's wheelchair. I usually walk her to school in her wheelchair but without it, it left us with the only option of making Hailey walk the whole way on her own in her walking frame.
We've never tried this before. The biggest distance we have covered is from home to daycare (270m). But from home to school is closer to the 900m mark. What's usually a 10-15 min walk took us 40 mins (lucky I left early). However she made it the whole way 🎉
She did alternate between her walking frame and holding my hand without the walking frame (while her brother happily had a turn in it). She also alternated from slow steps to trying to run. We had plenty of stops to rest. She was tired once we arrived at school but after a little sit down was back to her normal self.
While it's not something I'll be doing frequently, now knowing she's capable of doing it I'll be adding this into our routine (maybe once a month? Maybe more, maybe less) with the hope to build up her endurance/stamina and hopefully making it become easier for her in the future 🤞

EDIT - Her physio just pointed out to me that she even managed to achieve this WITHOUT her AFO's (she has new ones being made) making this an even bigger achievement ❤️
Woohoo, go Hailey 🎉

Most people never see what happens in a hospital bed.

Long hours.
Damp sheets.
Uncomfortable clothing.
And children who are already dealing with far more than they should.

When kids are unwell, moisture from sleep, spills, or nausea can sit in their clothing.
Friction increases.
Skin becomes irritated.
Small problems can quickly become bigger ones.

That is why what children wear in hospital matters.

Supertee garments are designed to be soft, breathable, and easy to change.
Sometimes even without waking a child.
They help keep skin drier, changes quicker, and hospital days a little gentler.

Giving children a choice of designs also gives them something powerful back.
A sense of control.
A sense of confidence.
A moment where they feel like themselves, not just a patient.

And this care should not stop at small sizes.

Teenagers and children in larger bodies deserve the same comfort, dignity, and imagination when they are in hospital.

At Supertee, we exist to bring strength through imagination to our children in hospital.
And we will keep going until no child is left without comfort when they need it most.

💛

Our girl graduated Kindy last week 🎉

For those followers who don't live WA, Here in Western Australia "Kindy" refers to the year before Pre-primary (the first year of compulsory full-time schooling).

Can't believe she's going into full-time schooling next year. Grateful for every milestone she achieves especially when we were told she wasn't going to experience these things.

Keep reaching high Hailey ❤️

Last Friday Hailey & her Dad Justin got invited to experience Christmas at Perth Council House. They got to be one of the very first to open the Council House Advent Calendar, meet Santa and experience the magic of Christmas in the City. You can watch the video below to see them getting to participate 😊

A big thank you to Perth Children's Hospital Foundation and City of Perth for including Hailey in your Christmas Magic ❤️

Until Christmas eve, Santa will be right beside the Advent Calendar each evening from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, ready to share that same Christmas joy with families across our community.

We've been discharged and are already home. She did well but is a little tired and grumpy and wanting cuddles hence the late post.
She's just taking it easy and having some cuddles with mummy and her new jellyfish squishy.
She also received a Bravery award as well ❤️

Also attached photos of her colouring in before surgery and with her bluey toys she picked out at the gift shop.
