We had the privilege of celebrating a very special milestone with the inaugural recipient of the Wendy Scholarship for Midwifery, Alana Weymuss 💙❤️

Made possible by the generosity of donor and critical care nurse Andrea Gillett. The scholarship honours the memory of her mother Wendy, a regional WA nurse and strong supporter of the RFDS. This scholarship opens the door for critical care nurses to pursue midwifery qualifications.

Joining us virtually from Melbourne, Alana celebrated alongside Andrea and RFDS WA team members over a shared online lunch, before Andrea enjoyed a tour of our Jandakot base.

RFDS WA Intensive Care Paramedic, Andrew Franklin, recently spent eight days on the road supporting the incredible Hawaiian Ride for Youth 🚲

The Hawaiian Ride for Youth is an annual cycling event that sees riders travel from Albany to Perth, raising vital funds and awareness for youth mental health programs across WA. Along the way, riders visit regional communities, sharing powerful conversations with young people about mental wellbeing and resilience.

When Cyclone Zelia hit the Pilbara in February 2025, most people took shelter but for South Hedland’s Joseph Wyllie, the cyclone triggered a terrifying case of asthma.

With roads closed and weather too dangerous to fly, the RFDS worked to safely transfer Joseph, who has Down Syndrome, to Perth for specialist care.

Grateful for the care he received, Joseph’s mum Te Aroha was inspired to give back. Both keen swimmers, the pair joined the national RFDS fundraiser Oceans to Outback, setting a goal to each swim 20 kilometres in 20 days during October, alongside Joseph’s support worker Andrew Lucas.

Together, they raised $2,350 for the RFDS 💙❤️

Kickboxer Danial Williams has faced plenty of tough opponents in the ring, but he met his hardest adversary when he crashed his car into a towering Karri tree in the South West.

The crash left Danial in a critical condition. He woke up from an induced coma in Royal Perth Hospital’s trauma ward 36 hours later and learned he had been flown in the RFDS Fortescue Heli-Med service EC-145 helicopter.
