In many parts of Indonesia, women are less likely to seek or access medical care, including eye treatment, due to cultural and social barriers. Limited mobility, lack of information, or hesitation to visit mixed-gender clinics often leave preventable conditions untreated.

Our women-only eye clinics were created to change that. By offering safe, respectful, and female-staffed spaces, we make it possible for women to receive examinations, surgeries, and prosthetic fittings with confidence and dignity. 🚺

The success of our programs rests on the dedication of Indonesia’s ophthalmologists, nurses, optometrists, and field teams who work under demanding conditions, often in remote locations. Their expertise and endurance make large-scale blindness prevention possible. By strengthening their training, equipment, and support systems, we ensure quality care reaches those who need it most. 🩺🥼

It started with one man fixing what shouldn’t have been broken.. lives dimmed by preventable blindness. John Fawcett believed that sight should never depend on wealth or geography. That simple idea still drives everything we do. 🤝

In Loving Memory of Win Jones

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved board member, Win Jones, who left us on Friday, 24th October. Win was a pillar of the John Fawcett Foundation for nearly 30 years, serving with dedication and compassion, including five years as Chairman of the JFFA Board.

Win's journey with the Foundation began 37 years ago through his work with the Dalkeith Rotary Club, when he first learnt about Bali Eye (as we were then known) from the West Perth Rotary Club. His commitment never wavered, and his contributions were recognised with an OAM for his exceptional service.

Beyond his board leadership, Win opened his heart and home to Bali Bombing victims who came to Perth for treatment. His connection to Bali ran deep. Staying at the same hotel for over 30 years, he became family to the Balinese people, both our staff and the community he loved so dearly.

Win's legacy lives on in every life we touch. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him, especially his beloved wife Margaret, and his extended family in Bali.

Rest in peace, Win. Your vision and kindness continue to give the gift of sight.

The John Fawcett Foundation family.
