ALIGNMENT WON’T FIX YOUR PAIN. STRENGTH MIGHT >>>

When I trained comprehensively 10 years ago alignment was everything. Good posture was the gold standard, everyone was chasing it.

Sure, it has its value; It can give you a reference point, and help your body manage load when it’s learning something new.

But things have evolved alot since 2016.
Alignment does not equal less pain.

People with excellent posture, still hurt. People with leg length differences, scoliosis or other spinal conditions can be totally pain free.

So when we work with people and pain now, it’s not about chasing perfect positions. It’s about building capacity.

Can your body move through range?
Can it control movement under load?
Can it tolerate variability?
Can your nervous system feel safe enough to adapt?

Alignment gives us a map. But a strong, adaptable body is far more resilient than a perfectly aligned one. And resilience? Well that’s what will change your brain’s relationship with pain.

In January, Rob and I gave up our second car to give our beautiful bikes a renaissance. Cycling for my commute (20-25 mins each way each day) has been awesome for my mental clarity and cardio health… AND… with the uptick in exercise intensity came an uptick in physical discomfort as old injury sensations resurfaced.

Cue me in self exploration mode to understand why the same patterns I felt when riding my bike around Melbourne 7 years ago are showing up again today?

So we thought we’d throw it to the brain’s trust.

Here are my symptoms:
👉 Increased hip flexor pain and the beginnings of a resurfacing hip impingement in right side
👉 Neural pain down lateral, posterior aspect of opposite leg.

Rob and I have made our own discoveries which I will release in comments, but practitioners, we would love to hear your thoughts!

It’s been 10 years this year since we started this account and our first studio in Melbourne came 5 months later. Now, in our second act in Perth we thought it might be time to finally tell the story of how Movementality began…

Monday musings on Neutral Spine and how its meaning and use has changed during my 10 years of teaching Pilates. Would love to hear how you use Neutral Spine in your Pilates practice? Is it the cornerstone of your work or do you barely consider it?

Have you had your pelvic floor assessed?
We need to get better about discussing these things as too many women just put up with poor pelvic floor function, either because they are embarrassed, too busy or have been reassured their symptoms are normal.

The pelvic floor is just like any other muscle group - it can be trained and it can change. Get to know your body, it’s the only one you’ve got 💪

Our Story

Ash and Rob have brought together their experiences and passions to develop their Pilates studio and movement education hub, Movementality.
