Celebrating these incredible young women today for International Women’s Day! 🩷

​This year’s theme is "Give to Gain", and you can see exactly what that looks like in these smiles!

On our recent trip to Tanzania in February, we saw firsthand the confidence and joy that comes when a girl is empowered with menstrual health education and period underwear.

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Onesmo, former Director of Sekou Toure Hospital.

Rafiki had the privilege of working at Sekou Toure Hospital for many years, and Dr Onesmo was always a warm, supportive presence. He believed strongly in improving access to healthcare and was genuinely committed to the wellbeing of the community he served.

His support and encouragement meant a great deal to our team and helped enable work that has changed many lives.

We extend our sincere condolences to his family, and the entire Sekou Toure Hospital community. He will be remembered with respect and gratitude.

Supporting Tanzania since 2004

Under the banner of the Australia Tanzania Society (ATS), Rafiki is registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission and as a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) in Tanzania, registered as Rafiki Australia Tanzania.

Rafiki is a 100 per cent volunteer organisation. With no administrative costs, every dollar raised goes back to making life better for people in Tanzania. Our funding comes from a variety of sources, including sponsorship from individuals and companies in Australia and Tanzania, and through our fundraising events in Perth, Australia.

Since 2004, Rafiki’s teams of volunteer surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals have been travelling to Tanzania to perform more than 3000 operations.
