Rafiki Australia Tanzania Donates Reusable Sanitary Pads to Mafinga Schools

Mafinga, Tanzania — October 1, 2025
Rafiki Australia Tanzania, in partnership with Tanzania’s Ministry of Health and the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East Africa Cooperation, Hon. Cosato Chumi, has launched a major initiative to support menstrual health for schoolgirls in Mafinga.

The organization has donated 500 reusable sanitary pad kits to girls at Kinyanambo Secondary School and Mkombwe Primary School, aiming to reduce school absenteeism caused by lack of access to menstrual hygiene products.

The donation is part of “Rafiki wa Binti”, a program dedicated to empowering Tanzanian girls to manage menstruation with dignity, confidence, and comfort. Each “Binti Pack” includes six high-quality reusable pads, a menstrual health education booklet, and a discreet storage bag.

According to Tanzania’s newly released National Guideline on Menstrual Health and Hygiene (2025), girls without access to proper menstrual products may miss up to 25 percent of school days each year. By addressing this challenge, Rafiki Australia’s initiative seeks to keep more girls in school and help them reach their full potential.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Chumi commended the partnership for supporting local communities and called on stakeholders to collaborate in scaling the program across Mafinga and beyond.

The initiative reflects Rafiki Australia’s commitment to sustainable, community-driven solutions. By working with schools and local leaders, the organization hopes to establish a long-term model for menstrual health education and product distribution throughout Tanzania.
