One of the greatest causes of postpartum depression is feeling unsupported.
Motherโs coming to terms with their new identity, cut off from life as they once knew it, and managing feelings of isolation while being expected to have the inner resources to be responsible for their vulnerable newborn and keep them secure.
When a mother is stressed, it seems to be an impossible task to ask them to manage their baby's nervous system too.
The high rate of postnatal depression is sadly understandable, and there is no shame in suffering.
It doesnโt mean that you cannot cope or are a bad mother. It means that unrealistic expectations are
placed on you.
Sharing your experience is important.
