Brianna Lafferty, a 33-year-old from Colorado, lived with a rare neurological condition called myoclonus dystonia, which causes sudden, uncontrollable muscle contractions. One day, her condition made her heart stop. In the hospital, doctors declared her clinically dead for eight minutes - no heartbeat, no breathing, no brain activity.
But according to Brianna, her awareness never actually disappeared. She says it felt like she gently stepped out of her body, like taking off a heavy coat, and entered a space beyond time. There was no pain or fear, just a sense of peace and clarity, and a feeling of being more alive than ever.
In that state, she noticed that her thoughts shaped what she experienced. Any negative thought faded before it could fully form, and peaceful ones seemed to ripple outward. While only eight minutes passed here, she says it felt like months as she explored, reflected, and met beings made of pure awareness who radiated love and wisdom.
When she came back, she had to relearn basic things and even went through brain surgery due to damage to her pituitary gland. But she says something deeper changed. She’s no longer afraid of death and lives with a stronger sense of purpose and awareness of how much our thoughts influence our reality.
Now, Brianna sees death not as an ending, but as what she calls “a change of address” - a shift in form rather than a final goodbye.
