🌟 Volunteer of the Week – Nick Straight 🌟

This week we’re proud to recognise Nick Straight, a true champion of our Nippers program and a long-standing contributor to Trigg Island SLSC 💚❤️🤍

For over 10 years, Nick has been a dedicated Nipper Age Manager, driven by a genuine passion for making sure every child gets the most out of their Nippers experience. Alongside his wife Mellie, Nick has helped create a positive, inclusive and supportive environment for our youngest members.

Beyond Sundays, you’ll often find Nick on the beach early Tuesday and Thursday mornings, delivering board and iron sessions, supporting coaches, providing water safety and stepping in wherever needed.

Nick also plays a key role behind the scenes — contributing to the Nipper Committee and mentoring new Age Managers to help build confidence, capability and continuity across the program.

Thank you, Nick, for your tireless commitment to developing the next generation of patrolling members and surf sports athletes. Your impact on Trigg Island is truly valued 🙌

Members and partners needing craft transport to Manly / Freshwater and/or return to Perth are asked to book and pay for a container spot via the link below.

Please select your options carefully when booking:

🕊 Shoulder to Shoulder 🕊

⏰ 8:00am meet | 8:15am reflection

This Saturday morning, we invite members and lifesavers to come together on the beach for a silent reflection at the water’s edge in light of recent events in Bondi. This initiative has been arranged nationally by and .

At 8:00am (local time), members are encouraged to wear patrol/ club uniform and stand shoulder to shoulder, facing the sea, to observe a three-minute silence before patrol commences.

This moment is a show of support for our fellow lifesavers and a mark of respect. Together, we stand united as surf lifesavers and lifeguards across the country.

There will be no speeches — just silence — as we remember those who lost their lives, those who risked their lives, those who worked tirelessly to save lives, and all of us who will never forget.

Get ready for one of the most fun and festive mornings of the season! Our intergenerational Trigg Christmas Challenge is back — bringing together Youth, Masters and invited Nippers for a morning of teamwork, laughs and friendly competition 💚❤️🤍

This event is all about fun, connection and celebrating Christmas the Trigg way.

🏃‍♂️🏊‍♀️🏄‍♂️ Expect relay-style challenges including runs, swims, boards, skis — plus a few fun team twists along the way!

Surf Safe. Drive Safe. 🚦🌊

We’re proud to share that Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club has been successful in accessing funding through Best on Road initiative, in partnership with the WA Road Safety Commission.

This funding has enabled us to kit out our Surf League coaches and surf sports athletes with new polos and competition gear in our Our Island colours, while proudly carrying the Best on Road road safety message.

Our Surf League athletes sit within a key target group — active, mobile, often travelling early mornings, late afternoons and long distances to beaches, training and competition. They’re also highly visible role models within our club and the wider community.

By embedding messages like “Surf Safe. Drive Safe.” and into our official surf sports gear, we’re:

💚 Reinforcing the importance of road safety alongside surf safety
💚 Using sport as a platform to prompt safer decision-making
💚 Ensuring safety messaging is seen at training, events and while travelling
💚 Supporting athletes to lead by example, both on the road and in the water

Because safety doesn’t start at the shoreline — it starts with getting to the beach safely and getting home safely.

A big thank you to SportWest and the WA Road Safety Commission for backing community sport and helping us deliver meaningful, real-world safety outcomes.
