🐝✨ Wednesday is Cluster Rush Day at our Balcatta Venom Clinic! ✨🐶

Every week, our bee and wasp venom allergy patients come in for their cluster rush desensitisation sessions - a carefully supervised treatment designed to help protect dogs from life-threatening allergic reactions.

During a cluster rush procedure, patients receive a series of injections over a shorter time frame, allowing them to reach their maintenance dose safely. It’s an intensive session, but you’d be surprised how relaxed many of our patients are… some even have time to enjoy belly rubs during monitoring! 😴💛

Dr Hilda is onsite every Wednesday, closely monitoring each patient throughout the process. She’s supported by our wonderful nurses, who help with patient comfort, safety, and also monthly maintenance injection appointments.

Bee and wasp allergies are serious but with the venom immunotherapy, we can significantly reduce the risk of severe reactions and give pets a safer, happier life outdoors. 🌼🐾

If you think your dog may have a bee or wasp venom allergy or you’d like to learn more about venom immunotherapy, give us a call at 08 6277 9430.

Say hello to our stunning Dobermann patient - the star of today’s spotlight on Phovia fluorescent light therapy! 🐾💡
He adores the attention from our clinic girlies and is the perfect gentleman during treatments.

Here at Animal Dermatology Clinic, Phovia isn’t new to us but many pet parents are still discovering how powerful this therapy can be.

🔬 How Phovia Works
Phovia is a clinically proven, two-part system consisting of an LED lamp and a chromophore gel. Together, they create multi-wavelength fluorescent light energy that penetrates the skin at varying depths, triggering beneficial cellular responses.
The result? Reduced inflammation and faster tissue regeneration - naturally.

⭐ What Phovia Can Help Treat
Hot spots & skin infections
Chronic or deep pyoderma
Interdigital cysts
Lick granulomas
Surgical wounds
Non-healing or traumatic wounds
…and more.

Each visit includes:
✨ 2-minute Phovia applications
✨ Plenty of treats and a PB licky mat 🍗
✨ Eye protection for everyone 😎
✨ Even more cuddles from our team

This patient came in with classic signs of lip fold pyoderma - redness, moisture, trapped debris, and that unmistakable smell that just won’t go away, even with good dental care.

For dogs with deep lip folds, this is a common issue. Moisture and bacteria get trapped, creating irritated and uncomfortable skin.

🧼 What we did:
To properly assess and treat the area, we performed a lip fold clip and clean under general anaesthesia. This allows us to gently remove the thick hair, thoroughly cleanse the affected folds, and evaluate how severe the infection is.

📸 In the after photo, the skin may look a little “angry” - a clip and deep clean can leave the area temporarily reddened, but we always follow with soothing topical treatments to calm the skin and support healing over the next several days.

If the condition doesn’t improve with medical therapy alone, we can also refer patients for surgical correction to help reduce future infections.

If your dog’s lip folds are smelly, irritated, or difficult to keep clean, give us a call at 08 6277 9430 - we’re here to help keep those faces comfortable and healthy. 💙🐾

Nurse Amy is often busy preparing customised immunotherapy vials for our allergy patients…
and every now and then, she ends up with an adorable “assistant” at her side. 🧪🐾

This cheerful pup stayed with us for an immunotherapy induction day and looked very committed to supervising her work - clearly one of Santa’s dermatology elves in disguise. 🎅🧝‍♂️

Our patients have a special way of adding a little extra magic to the clinic, especially during the holiday season.💛

A huge thank-you to all of our amazing clients who spoil us with sweet treats this time of year - your kindness truly keeps our team smiling (and very well-snacked). 💙🍪

And today’s goodies? These came from our very own clinic manager and Dr Mandy, making sure we have the extra motivation - and sugar boost - needed to power through a busy dermatology day. 😄💪🍫

Between your generosity and our team’s thoughtful surprises, we’re feeling fueled, festive, and just a little bit hyper. 🎄😜

On Saturday our wonderful team came together to celebrate the holiday season with a magical evening under the stars at Moonlight Cinema in Kings Park! ✨🎄

We settled into our comfy bean bags with a beautifully curated picnic, catered by the lovely Bridget Reeve at Ripe Art - the talented florist who brings gorgeous blooms to our clinic throughout the year. 🌸🥗 Her food and styling made the evening feel extra special.

And of course, no Christmas party is complete without gifts! Our White Elephant exchange brought plenty of laughs, surprises, and joyful chaos. 🎁😄

As the sky darkened, we relaxed back and enjoyed Wicked on the big screen - the perfect mix of movie magic, music, and festive vibes. 🎥💚

We’re so grateful for this team and for the moments we get to share together, both at work and on nights like these. Here’s to a bright holiday season and an exciting year ahead! 🥂✨

🗓️✨ Holiday Prep Tip for Pet Parents!

Before the holiday rush begins, now is the perfect time to double-check your pet’s dermatology medications.
Make sure you have enough refills of anything your pet needs for their ongoing skin care or allergy maintenance. 💊🐾

Travel, clinic closures, and shipping delays can sneak up quickly, so ordering ahead helps keep treatment on track and your pet comfortable all season long.

If you’re running low or have questions about your pet’s prescribed routine, our team is here to help! 💚

Plan ahead, stay prepared, and enjoy a stress-free holiday with your furry family. 🎄✨

This sweet patient came to us with a combination of painful and uncomfortable skin changes, including:

🐾 Sloughing and ulceration of the paw pads
🐽 Crusting on the nose and lip margins
✨ Crusting on the neck, head, and inguinal region
😣 Significant paw itching and discomfort

Because these types of lesions can stem from several different immune-mediated or inflammatory skin diseases, our dermatology team performed multiple targeted skin biopsies from the paws and nose to help narrow down the cause.

📋 What we found:
The biopsy results showed pustular dermatitis with acantholytic keratinocytes, a pattern that strongly supports a clinical diagnosis of pemphigus foliaceus, an autoimmune skin condition that can affect the nose, paw pads, and other sensitive areas.

With this information, we were able to create a tailored treatment plan focused on reducing inflammation, restoring skin comfort, and helping this patient feel like themselves again.

💛 The result?
Clearer skin, more comfortable paws, and a much happier pup who’s finally able to walk and play without pain. Our team is continuing to monitor progress closely and adjust therapies to ensure long-term comfort.

This case is a great example of how advanced diagnostics and individualised care allow us to manage even complex autoimmune skin diseases with compassion and precision. ✨
