✨ Before & After – CO₂ Laser Surgery ✨

This patient was admitted for surgical removal of multiple skin masses under general anaesthetic, followed by CO₂ laser treatment to address crusted and vascular skin lesions.

The CO₂ laser is an excellent tool in dermatology surgery, allowing for precise treatment with minimal bleeding and improved healing outcomes.

A great example of how advanced techniques can make a big difference for our patients 🐾💛

If you ever notice new or changing skin lesions on your pet, early assessment is key.

Wednesdays at Balcatta = Bee & Wasp Venom Clinic day 🐝🐶

Our Bee & Wasp Venom Clinic runs every Wednesday at our Balcatta location, helping protect dogs with confirmed venom allergies through carefully managed immunotherapy.

Brave faces, side-eyes, shared toys - we love seeing our patients supporting each other through their visits 💛🐾

If your dog has experienced a bee or wasp reaction, chat to our team about whether venom immunotherapy may be appropriate.

Impression smears are one of the most valuable and commonly used diagnostic tools in veterinary dermatology 🐾🔬

By gently pressing a microscope slide against the skin, we can collect cells from the surface and examine them under the microscope. This quick and non-invasive test helps us identify issues such as bacterial infections, yeast overgrowth, inflammation, and other changes in the skin.

Impression smears are especially helpful for itchy, red, or oozing skin lesions, and they allow our team to make faster, more targeted treatment decisions - meaning pets can start feeling better sooner.

A simple slide can provide a wealth of information! ✨🐶🐱

🎉 Happy Birthday to our amazing Nurse Karin! ❤️🐾🎂

While some people were busy celebrating Valentine’s Day over the weekend, we all know the real event was Karin’s birthday, because being born around Valentine’s Day means she’s basically a professional at spreading love 💕 (to our patients, our team, and even in the captions she writes… like this one).

So let’s show her some love today - drop a birthday message in the comments! 🎈🎉

When skin issues don’t have clear answers, a skin biopsy can help us get to the root of the problem.🤓

A skin biopsy involves taking a small sample of your pet’s skin and sending it for histopathology, where the cells are examined closely under a microscope. This allows us to reach an accurate diagnosis for conditions such as suspected tumours, persistent ulcerations, immune-mediated skin diseases, follicular dysplasia, or sebaceous adenitis.

Biopsies are especially important when skin conditions aren’t responding to standard treatments or when a dermatosis looks unusual or more serious than expected. By understanding what’s happening at a cellular level, we can create a treatment plan tailored specifically to your pet 💙

Complications are rare, and with simple aftercare, keeping the area clean and dry, healing is usually smooth.

If you’ve noticed ongoing skin issues or changes that don’t seem right, we’re here to help. Book a consultation with our team 🐶🐱💌

Happy World Veterinary Dermatology Day 🐶🐱

World Veterinary Dermatology Day is celebrated each year on 3rd February to highlight the importance of skin health in animals and to recognise the role veterinary dermatology plays in improving comfort, wellbeing and quality of life for our furry friends💙

Skin disease is one of the most common reasons animals are presented to veterinarians, and increased awareness, education and collaboration are key to advancing diagnosis and treatment worldwide.

To mark the day, the global veterinary dermatology community is coming together through initiatives such as The Global Dermathon (3–4 February), supporting education and knowledge-sharing across borders in association with WAVD & Elearning.Vet.🤓
