AMA (WA) President Dr Kyle Hoath spoke to Andrew Collins at ABC Radio WA about the risks and potential benefits of ChatGPT Health.

Dr Hoath says that doctors will have a role in educating their patients about how to use this tool, while at the same time having to adapt and learn about it themselves. He also discusses privacy issues, and advises caution when sharing personal health information with commercial AI platforms.

At the end of the day, this new technology can help people access health information, but these platforms can and will make mistakes. So it's also important that people follow up with their doctor to make sure they haven't missed or misinterpreted anything.

A report released on Friday revealed the truth about the urgent problems with our public hospitals. It reveals that the government has no dedicated maintenance plan, and it will take millions of dollars just to fix the most serious problems.

AMA (WA) President Dr Kyle Hoath spoke to 7 News about the State Government's reluctance to release the report in full, which is clearly in the public interest. If we're going to be frank and fearless about this and there's nothing to hide, we need transparency.

A groundbreaking allergy advice platform, called allergy assist®, initially established to help doctors in rural and remote locations, has been expanded to support metropolitan GPs.

The free service supports GPs to correctly diagnose and manage allergic disease, including food, drug (medication) and insect allergies, allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma and eczema.

The online platform lets GPs and rural generalists who register with the program to submit a de-identified patient case, detailing information about the patient’s clinical history and allergic presentation. A clinical immunology/allergy specialist reviews the case and responds within 48 hours. Advice supports local management where possible or recommends a referral if needed.

In this month's President's Blog, Dr Kyle Hoath writes about meeting with our newest doctors during Intern Orientation Week.

While some of our Interns already have a sense of where they are heading (lucky them), many are still finding their way, understandably. This intern year ends up being a formative one in shaping their skills, values, and confidence, offering valuable insights into the career in front of them.

It is vital for the AMA (WA) to be their voice and to support them on this journey. Admittedly, they are stepping into a system under pressure, and as doctors already experienced in what they are facing, we would obviously wish it was otherwise, and they had the opportunity to transition into the system in a more benign environment.

Likewise, we value adding their voices to the AMA (WA). We consider it the best way to be actively involved in our wonderful profession, and to contribute to important conversations about safe hours, training quality, workforce planning, working conditions and quality healthcare.

During Intern Orientation Week, the AMA (WA) has met with more than 400 Interns at Joondalup Health Campus, Royal Perth Hospital, Fiona Stanley Hospital, WA Country Health Service, St John of God Midland, and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

It's an exciting time for our newest additions to the profession, so it was great for AMA (WA) President Dr Kyle Hoath, CEO Dr Bennie Ng, and staff to welcome these doctors, and tell them about the many benefits of joining the largest independent professional organisation for medical practitioners and medical students in the State.
