Got Stan? Watch this documentary right now...Embrace.
Two days ago I looked in the mirror and saw an overweight, old, wrinkled and tired woman. I’m 40 this year so not entirely unexpected I guess - I don’t mind wrinkles and the sun damage is my own fault 🤦♀️
Then I googled ‘how to look 10 years younger’ sat down with pen and paper ready to take notes. Watched a few YouTube gurus telling not to wear oversized prints and to try a ‘cute wedge heel’ instead of Birkenstock’s to chase the kids around 😆😆 Not f**king likely lady.
I couldn’t stomach it. A voice inside was saying ‘f**k that, I’m gonna wear Birkies and 3/4 culottes because...well I like them.’
So when I watched Embrace today on Stan, I felt affirmed and validated, happy that it seems the world my daughters will grow up in will be more inclusive of differences. No matter how slow it is, getting to a point where people in wheelchairs, pimples, squishy thighs and tummies and dare I say - stretch marks are not only considered typical, they’re considered beautiful.
I’m still afraid of social media and my girls growing up together but a very wise woman told me the other day ‘ we should treat it with a harm minimisation approach. It’s there, they’ll use it so make sure it’s in a healthy way. Encourage them to follow women who focus on more than looks. Men who respect women for more than their looks and treasure their wives/partners and children.’
Woo...that’s a lot for a Sunday but maybe something to think about as we start a new week. ❤️❤️
