Thank you for having us Westcoast Community Centre! Healthy ageing is very important to us and our clients at the UWA EPC. Promoting lifelong physical activity to be able to share special moments with grandchildren, maintain social networks within the community, and independence to participate in activities of daily living is key. Moving our bodies is essential to staying fit. If you would like to know more please email the team on epc-sseh@uwa.edu.au or give us call 64883333!

Mutual helping required. Can anyone with low back pain help us by volunteering to be the subject of a live client assessment this weekend during a course at UWA? The person running the course (and doing the assessment) is currently completing his PhD at UniSA supervised by some of the most knowledgeable minds in the world when it comes to pain. The aim of the assessment is to help give the volunteer new ideas or exercises that can help them with their back pain. For further details please email EPC (epc-sseh@uwa.edu.au), Brett (Brett.buist@uwa.edu.au) or Brendan Mouatt (Brendan.mouatt@unisa.edu.au). Thanks in advance.

WEIGHT LIFTING IN OLDER ADULTS 💪

Individuals begin to lose muscle mass before the age of 40,
this can be caused by a reduction in muscle fibres as motor neurons (cells in the brain and spinal cord that tell the body to move) break down.

However, This can be slowed down significantly!

Researchers have revealed that weight training makes the connection between nerves and the muscles stronger,
Which protects the spinal cord - important for a well-functioning body!
