We are excited to share the first publication relating to the research of the Peggy Lego program! This is the first known publication relating to a prewriting intervention.
You can read the full article online, however here is a snapshot of the findings!
💥All participants improved their ability to form prewriting patterns following the intervention, but we could not tell if Peggy Lego helped them more than routine teaching, or if the children improved over time.
💥Most children stated they liked Peggy Lego and thought their drawing got better, even though it was a bit hard.
💥Future research could look at whether feeling more confident helps children when they start learning to write letters.
This does mean my PhD is drawing to a close - which is a whole other element of excitement 😆
Successful handwriting is dependent on accurate and efficient letter formation, which is dependent on drawing sub‐strokes of letters and prewriting patterns. Currently, there is no prewriting intervention programmes with established efficacy, and ...

A truly customised mobile Occupational Therapy service for children and families. Assessment available as well as consultation and intervention. Expert clinical assistance in fine motor, gross motor, sensory processing, visual perception, handwriting and more.
Lil Peeps was founded by Berry Johnston, owner and Principal Occupational Therapist. Lil Peeps is a private paediatric Occupational Therapy service, offering a range of assessment, intervention and consultation services to schools and families south of the river.
Berry graduated from Curtin University in 2002, with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy and is a member of the Developmental Occupational Therapy Association, Professional Member of Early Childhood Intervention Australia and Associate member of the Australian Institute of Management. Berry has vast experience in the paediatric setting including working with both families and schools, including children with a diagnosis and those with general developmental needs.
These roles have been as a therapist, clinical specialist, manager and project manager. A great deal of Berry's current practice at Lil Peeps includes providing a consultancy service to schools, in the form of professional training and support, screening and assessment services and program design.
Lil Peeps currently has relationships with a number of CEWA schools, where kindy or pre-primary screening services are offered on-site at the school, as well as follow up intervention. This model is very effective in providing efficient access to early intervention and we collaborate closely with other service providers supporting the school.
Lil Peeps is also a Clinical Education Centre for Curtin University, where clinical supervision is provided to final year Occupational Therapy students. Being a Clinical Education Centre, Lil Peeps is able to enhance the programs provided by increasing the therapist to child ratio in sessions and keep costs low for families.
There are a number of Occupational Therapists working for Lil Peeps and they are required to be registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Registry, have a National Police Check and WA Working with Children Check. They also have professional indemnity and public liability insurance in place.
Students that support the programs are all required to have a National Police Clearance and WA Working with Children Check as well as completed and passed all paediatric units of their degree. Also professional development and consultation available for education and childcare settings.
