Way to go.

Keep education simple.

Students hide behind screens.

Use screens as an incentive for students to achieve.

Screens can be introduced in upper high school.

Our students don't need addiction. They need education.

In an age where screens are everywhere, some schools are beginning to rediscover the value of traditional learning. Sweden has been moving away from heavy digital instruction and bringing back books, notebooks, and pencils. Many educators believe that writing by hand helps students remember information better and stay focused longer. Turning real pages instead of scrolling a screen changes the rhythm of learning. It slows things down in a good way. For many older generations, this feels familiar because it’s how they learned in the first place. Sometimes the most effective methods are the ones that worked long before technology arrived.

Yesterday at Can Do Training, we welcomed Tony Palladino, the Chief Executive Officer of the Food, Fibre and Timber Industries Training Council.

Tony was there to help us provide our students with a mock job interview experience. Thank you Tony 😊 🙏

Our students have been looking at the most common job interview questions and they have been preparing suitable responses.

Support workers were invited to observe the job interview and to provide written feedback on our students progress.

A wonderful experience for our students who mentioned how nervous they felt prior to this experience and how relived they felt after experience.

At Can Do Training, we know that practice makes progress and our students are certainly progressing. 🌟 ⭐️ 💫 🌟

Job Interview Skills for School Leavers with Additional Learning Needs

Yesterday at Can Do Training, our students practised one of the most important and daunting skills required for entering the workforce.

The job interview.

For many young people, a job interview is a stressful situation. For young people with additional learning needs, this feeling may be exacerbated. This is why we spend the time to break down key components.

Time is spent considering suitable responses and role playing scenarios to help develop new skills and confidence.

Next week, a guest/visitor has been invited to conduct face to face mock job interviews with our students.

Confidence grows through practise. At Can Do Training, we believe that "practice makes progress". We don't seek perfection, we look at providing consistent opportunities for growth and learning.

The transition from school is one of the most important turning points in a young person’s life. With the right support and skills, doors and opportunities are available.

We help to provide work placements for our students.

We help prepare our students for life and work.

NDIS funded participants are welcome.

At Can Do Training, we are committed to teaching effective communication skills and strategies to our students.

Our programs are tailored to ensure our programs are delivered in a fun, interactive and engaging way.

Today, the focus was on teaching our students the "old school " art of having a verbal conversation on the telephone.

We discussed how we have lost that skill with the advent of the "smart phone". We compared the difference of texting and chatting verbally and our students were provided with the opportunity of how to verbally speak on the phone appropriately, what to say, when and why.

We also looked at how to handle verbal telephone communications in a workplace.

At Can Do Training, we gently guide and encourage our students to try new things.

Growth and learning occurs when we have the right structure, strategies and support.

Our programs are delivered over 10 weeks and are designed for teenagers and young adults with an intellectual learning disability and additional learning needs.

Beyond the School Gates: When Structure Disappears

There is a moment that few people talk about.

The school bus stops coming.
The timetable disappears.
The reports end.

And suddenly, a young adult who has lived inside structure for twelve years is home.

For many families, this moment feels like relief.
“No more school battles.”
“No more assessments.”

But beneath the relief, there is often something else.

Uncertainty.

For young adults with intellectual disability and additional learning needs, structure is not simply routine.
It is scaffolding.

Structure builds:

Social confidence

Communication habits

Daily rhythm

Purpose

When structure disappears and nothing replaces it, skills can quietly begin to fade.

Not dramatically.
Not overnight.

But gradually.

Confidence softens.
Motivation lowers.
Anxiety increases.
Independence stalls.

This is not because our young people are incapable.

It is because growth requires movement.

The years after school are not the end of development.
They are the bridge into adulthood.

And bridges must be built with intention.

The question is not:
“Have they finished school?”

The question is:
“What is continuing to grow?”

If you are a mother standing at this crossroads, please know this:

You are not overthinking it.
You are not being dramatic.

You are recognising that adulthood does not happen by accident.

It is built.

If this resonates with you, reach out. The transition beyond school should not be walked alone.

What happens to a young person when school ends… and real life begins?

What happens when that young person has an intellectual learning disability and/or additional learning needs?

The transition from school into “real life” can be overwhelming for young adults with additional learning needs and their families.

It can feel confusing, uncertain, and overwhelming.

Young people leave the familiar routine of going to school and then what? Some go to uni, others to TAFE. What happens to the students who may not be ready for either and for those who may never be able to realistically cope with that environment?

Some students leave school still needing to know who they are, what they want. They want to know who can help them. Someone who has been there and felt that confusion, overwhelm and frustration.

Is there someone out there that can help young people with additional learning needs develop skills such as confidence, communication, independence, and workplace readiness beyond school?

Every young person deserves the chance to feel capable, included, and prepared for what comes next.

That’s one of the reasons I decided to launch Can Do Training.

I bring over 27 years of experience in vocational education, career development combined and lived experience supporting family members who faced their own challenges finding their place in the world.

I have seen the difference the right support can make.

And I have seen the worry families carry when that support is missing.

More families than ever are searching for direction and clarity.

More young adults want to work, contribute, and belong.

More teachers, therapists, and support professionals are looking for trusted pathways they can confidently recommend.

At Can Do Training, we help our clients build confidence to create opportunity and to help young people move into the future with belief in themselves.

At Can Do Training, we support the transition from school to life, with heart, skill, and purpose.

At Can Do Training, we recognise that we all learn differently.

We address our students needs and requirements according to where they currently are. We look at their goals, dreams, ambitions, aspirations, what motivates them and what holds them back.

Our focus is on what our students CAN DO. We gently guide, nudge and support our students to step out of their comfort zone.

Today's topics included workplace skills, working effectively with others, interpersonal and communication skills.

We looked at codes of conduct and our mobile phone policy. There was a lot of chatter, a lot of thinking and a lot of progress.

Our strategies ensures our students further develop their confidence, communication and presentation skills so they can also further enhance their confidence and self belief.

Students may enrol at any time. Places are STRICTLY LIMITED. We keep our classes small to ensure that each student receives the attention and support they need and deserve.

Customer Service is our topic at Can Do Training today.

Students are busy exploring what makes the Customer service experience favourable and unfavourable.

Open and closed questions are also being explored, as are suitable and relevant responses.

Students work autonomously, in pairs and in small groups.

At Can Do Training, 1 plus 1 does not equal 2.

1 + 1 = 11 as we all have something of value to share, teach and learn.

Together we can achieve so much more.

Our 2026 programs have started and Students are most welcome to join in at ANY time.

Students will require NDIS Self or Plan Managed funding.

DM me should you have any questions, or scroll through our page to learn more about what we do, or view our website www.candotraining.com.au

We look forward to hearing from you .
