A fresh batch of our Homemade Bath Powder is now available. 🛁💗🤗

A favourite product amongst the Lakshmi staff… and a great last minute Christmas gift idea! 🎁 💝🎄

The Lakshmi bath powder is made with a number of Ayurvedic herbs 🪴 specially formulated to nourish, cleanse and rejuvenate your skin ☺️. The powder has an exfoliating action, leaving your skin feeling so soft and smooth!

The recipe we use at the clinic is a traditional formulation passed down by one of Karin’s inspirational teachers, Dr Gayathri Bhat. This makes our formulation so special. 🫶

In Ayurveda it is said that Snana (bathing) is a regimen that is to be done daily, which removes Mala (waste products) and Sweda (sweat). Snana is beneficial in increasing Bala (strength), Roopa (enhances beauty), Swarashudhi (voice), Sparsha (soft touch), Gandha (pleasant odour), Parishudhatha (cleanliness) and Shanti (peace). ☮️

How to use: Mix the powder with some water, milk, or oil, to make a paste and rub it into the skin. Leave it on for about 10 minutes before taking your bath or shower.

Our Bath Powder is available for purchase at the Lakshmi Shop, or our Online Shop 🛍️. Alternatively, when you book in for an Abhyanga treatment here at the clinic, you can purchase a jar for the discounted price of $15. 💆🏻‍♀️

One of our favourite summer vegetables is winter melon also know as ash gourd. Our Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant students learned about this vegetable and cooked with it this week. 🧑‍🍳

Have you cooked with winter melon before? Or have you drank the juice?

In Ayurveda, winter melon is considered to be one of the most healing vegetables. In Sanskrit, it is called Kushmanda which can be translated as “the fruit and seeds do not contain heat”. Which makes it so perfect during the summer month. 🌞🌞🌞

This vegetable is available in Australia. Keep your eyes open in your local Asian grocery store.

Winter melon is cultivated throughout Southeast Asia and grows well in Australia during the warm seasons. Winter melon 🍈 belongs to the gourd family. This group of vegetables provide vitamins, essential minerals, antioxidants and soluble fibres.

Kushmanda has numerous benefits, especially those for balancing Vata and Pitta dosha.
1. Cooling effect on the body 🆒
2. It has anti-allergic properties and can be helpful in pitta-induced skin inflammation and allergies.
3. Treatment of the nervous system.
4. Peptic ulcers, burning sensation, acidity🔥
5. Urinary disease, cleanses the bladder
6. Heart disease❤️
7. Gives relief to constipation and helps in bleeding piles
8. Beneficial in fever 🥵
9. Useful in asthma and cough 😷
10. Has a calming effect on the mind and is found to be beneficial in slowing Alzheimer’s disease 🚽🧘‍♀️

Traditional Ayurvedic uses and their Sanskrit terms:
🍈Weakness (Daurbalya)
🍈Painful urination (Mootrakrichchra)
🍈Kidney stones (Ashmari)
🍈Diabetes (Prameha)
🍈Bleeding disorder (Raktapitta)
🍈Fever (Jwara)
🍈Emaciation (Shosha)
🍈Thirst (Trishna)
🍈Giddiness (Bhrama)
🍈Vomiting (Chard)
🍈Cough and shortness of breath (Kasa/ Shwasa)

A fresh batch of our homemade Amalaki Rasayana is back in stock 🙌🤤💗 made from scratch by Karin.

We love preparing classical Ayurvedic formulations at the Lakshmi clinic 🧑‍🍳

This is one of the most powerful immunity strengthening and anti ageing formulas Ayurveda has to offer 💪🏼

Amalaki, also known as Amla, Indian Gooseberry or Emblica officinalis, is known for having five of the six tastes 😛. These include pungent, bitter, astringent, sweet and sour, excluding salty. Its qualities make it pacifying to Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, and can be used in all seasons.

The high vitamin C and antioxidant content has anti-inflammatory properties which work to promote healthy detoxification and assimilation of nutrients. Amalaki improves digestion. The cooling tendencies of Amla helps to clear out excess heat within the digestive track and promote regular bowel movements.

This formulation is also beneficial for:

- Anaemia (Pandu).

- Nourishment of Rasa dhatu.

- Rasayana (Rejuvenation).

- To enhance immunity (Ojas building).

- Headaches.

- Promotes eye sight (Chakshushya).

- Skin problems, hair fall.

- Aphrodisiac (vrushya).

- anti-aging (vayasthapan).

Available for purchase via our online shop, or visit the shop between 9am - 4:30pm 🥰🙏🪷

Get in quick because they won’t last long!

Drink your juice the Ayurvedic way

No One Size Fits All Approach

Juicing for Vata 💨🌬️

The best fruits and vegetables are those that are sweet and sour as they pacify Vata when consumed in moderation. Grape, mango, carrot, pineapple, orange, beetroot, and cucumber to name a few. Vata constitution generally are best suited for short juicing and may not be suitable for juicing at all. Alternatives to juicing may include liquid porridge, kitchari or mung soup. Incorporating a juice into the diet alongside more substantial foods could be more beneficial for a Vata constitution, while making sure the juice is not mixed with other foods.

Juicing for Pitta 🔥💧

The best fruits and vegetables for Pitta individuals are those that are sweet, bitter, and astringent in quality. These include sweet apple, red grapes, pomegranate, plum, cucumber, asparagus, broccoli, coriander, and Aloe Vera. People with a dominance of Pitta in their Prakriti should be monitored to make sure they don’t diminish their strong digestive fire. If the individual feels an intense hunger they should support the cleanse by considering adding thicker, more dense smoothies and blends to satisfy hunger. Psyllium husks are great for providing bulk, supporting digestion and are nutritious.

Juicing for Kapha 💧🌎

The best fruits and vegetables for Kapha are those that are astringent, bitter, and pungent. Apples, cherries, cranberries, pear, pomegranate, prunes, celery, cucumber, kale, and cilantro to name a few. Kapha body types can usually endure longer fasts, however Kapha individuals need to be cautious not to aggravate their symptoms. From an Ayurvedic perspective, Kapha dosha consists of water and earth elements and two of the qualities include liquid and cold. Similarly, juicing has qualities of liquidity and can be cold in nature. Therefore, a Kapha individual should incorporate more warming juices and broths to combat the cold qualities. They can do so by adding some cayenne pepper to the juice, ginger or black pepper.

Enjoy 🍓🍒🍊🍎🍋
