I delayed launching my book.

Not because it wasn’t ready.
Not because I didn’t have time.
But because… it wasn’t perfect.

And if I’m honest — underneath that — was something deeper:

A need for control.
A fear of judgment.
A quiet voice asking, “What if it’s not good enough?”

So I waited.
Tweaked. Edited. Refined. Delayed.

What looked like “high standards”…
Was actually procrastination in disguise.

Here’s the truth:

Procrastination isn’t laziness.
It’s emotional regulation.

It’s the brain trying to protect you from discomfort —
stress, uncertainty, vulnerability.

It’s choosing short-term relief…
over long-term growth.

Psychologists call this Akrasia —
acting against your better judgment.

You know what to do.
You just don’t do it.

Why?

Because perfectionism creates an impossible standard.
And when the bar is impossible…
avoidance feels safer than action.

But here’s what I’ve learned the hard way:

👉 Progress creates clarity.
👉 Action builds confidence.
👉 And nothing meaningful is ever born from waiting until you feel ready.

The shift isn’t about “trying harder.”

It’s about:
• Breaking the task down
• Accepting imperfection
• Acting despite the discomfort

Because the goal isn’t perfection.

It’s expression.
It’s growth.
It’s movement.

My book didn’t need to be perfect.
It needed to be shared.

Where in your life are you delaying something that matters…
in the name of getting it “just right”?

Can people find flow when life falls apart?

Sue Jackson and Antonella Delle Fave think so, and they'll make the case in their keynote at Flow Conference 2026.

They'll break down the challenge-skill balance model: a way to turn adversity into something you can work with, not just endure. Sue will share stories of people who found flow by treating hardship as a challenge. Antonella will present research on people living with disabilities, chronic illness, mental health conditions, and pandemic-era isolation who still grew by finding flow in their daily routines.

Watch their introduction here.
