✨ One year ago today, I took a leap and started my little passion project—a dream of creating something truly personal for my beautiful clients. From the very beginning, it wasn’t about numbers or KPIs. It was about connection, care, and offering a touch of personal that makes every session special. 💛

In just one year, we’ve grown so much: moving into our own clinic, welcoming amazing new families, and expanding our incredible team. I am humbled, blessed, and beyond grateful for the trust and love our families have shown us along the way.

Today, I pause to reflect on this journey and say thank you—from the bottom of my heart—for letting us be part of your lives. Here’s to another year of growth, care, and connection. 🌿

💡Parent Tip!💡

One of the easiest ways to boost your child’s speech and language development is simply by talking out loud as you go about your day. 💬

This is called “self-talk” or “parallel talk.”

It’s when you describe what you or your child are doing in the moment, no fancy toys or flashcards needed!

For example:
🧺 “We’re putting the clothes in the basket.”
🍎 “Mummy’s cutting the apple. Slice, slice!”
🚗 “You’re driving your car — beep beep!”

By hearing you use real words in meaningful, everyday contexts, your child is learning:
💡 How words match actions and objects
💡 How sentences are structured
💡 The rhythm and flow of conversation
💡 That communication is fun and natural!

Try adding a little narration throughout your day — while cooking, getting dressed, or playing. You might feel a bit silly at first, but your child’s brain is soaking it all up! 🌟

That’s a wrap on our ECU first-year Speech Pathology student placements! 🎓💬

Each week we welcomed new students into the clinic to observe sessions and gain insight into the world of speech pathology in practice. 💜
It’s been wonderful having their enthusiasm and curiosity in the clinic — we wish them all the best as they continue their studies! 👏✨

Today is International Stuttering Awareness Day — a day to listen, learn, and celebrate the voices of people who stutter.

Stuttering is a natural variation in the way people speak. It doesn’t define intelligence, ability, or confidence — and fluency isn’t the goal for everyone.

At So to Speak, we’re proud to support individuals who stutter to build confidence, embrace their voice, and communicate authentically. 💬✨

Let’s break the stigma and remind the world that every voice deserves to be heard. 💙

🌟 ECU Students at So to Speak 🌟

This week, we had the privilege of welcoming more wonderful ECU speech pathology students to So to Speak — Meg, Eleanor, Kathryne, and Danielle! 🎓✨

It was such good fun having them with us, and we hope they enjoyed their time here as much as we enjoyed having them. We truly believe we learn just as much from our students as they (hopefully!) learn from us. 💛

We wish them all the best in their studies and can’t wait to see them join the speech pathology community one day — we have no doubt they’ll be amazing! 👏🗣️

💛 DLD Awareness Day 2025 💛

Today we’re raising awareness for Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) — a hidden but common condition that affects 1 in 14 people.

Children with DLD have persistent difficulties understanding and/or using language, which can impact learning, friendships, and everyday communication. It’s not caused by hearing loss, intellectual disability, or lack of exposure to language — it’s a neurodevelopmental condition that requires understanding and support.

Common signs of DLD may include:
🗣️ Difficulty finding the right words or expressing thoughts
👂 Trouble understanding instructions or questions
📚 Challenges with reading, writing, or learning new vocabulary

With early identification and speech therapy, children with DLD can make incredible progress in their communication skills and confidence.

At So to Speak Speech Pathology, we’re proud to support children with DLD and their families through evidence-based, individualised therapy.

Let’s spread awareness and advocate for children with DLD — because understanding leads to inclusion. 💛

Communication is a right — not a privilege. 💯

AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication — tools and strategies that help people communicate when speech alone isn’t enough.

AAC can include:
💬 Gestures, facial expressions, and sign language
🖼️ Picture boards or communication books
📱 Speech-generating devices or communication apps

AAC gives children a way to share their thoughts, feelings, and ideas — helping them connect with family, friends, and their world. It doesn’t stop speech development — in fact, it often encourages it!

Every child deserves the chance to be heard, no matter how they communicate. This month, and every month, we celebrate all voices — spoken or otherwise.

💙 Every voice matters.
💙 Every message counts.
💙 Communication is for everyone.
