🌟 Resource Spotlight: Magnetic Tiles! 🌟

Simple, open-ended toys often create the most powerful learning opportunities and these are a favourite for a reason!

Magnetic Tiles are fantastic for supporting:
💬 language development (up, down, build, crash!)
🧠 problem solving and creativity
👉 joint attention and turn-taking
🎯 early requesting and commenting (more, help, again)
🗣️ expanding vocabulary through play-based interaction

Their open-ended nature keeps little ones engaged while creating endless opportunities for modelling language, encouraging interaction, and following your child’s lead.

Whether you’re building towers, houses, or knocking it all down, every moment becomes a chance to connect, communicate, and learn 💫

Plus they’re durable, visually engaging, and perfect for both independent play and supported interaction 💛

✨ This was created by one of our mums in the wait room today… 🌈😊

We absolutely love these little moments.

Our space is designed for children — but sometimes it’s the parents who need a moment to pause, play, and just be too 💛

And when that happens… you know the space feels safe, welcoming, and a little bit special ✨

Because at So To Speak, it’s not just about therapy — it’s about creating an environment where the whole family feels comfortable.

Honestly… this made our day 🥹

Not sure if your toddler’s speech is on track? You’re not alone! This is one of the most common questions we get from parents 💛

Here are 3 signs your toddler may benefit from a little extra support:

✨ 1. They’re not using many words yet.
By around age 2, most toddlers are starting to use at least a handful of words consistently. If your little one isn’t quite there yet, it might be worth exploring.

✨ 2. They get frustrated when trying to communicate.
Tantrums, pointing, or pulling you toward things can sometimes be their way of saying, “I have something to say, but I don’t know how.”

✨ 3. They understand you, but aren’t talking much. If your child follows instructions but isn’t expressing themselves verbally, this is a really common (and important) sign to look into.

Every child develops at their own pace, but early support can make such a big difference 💫

If this sounds like your little one, trust your gut. You’re not overreacting, you’re being proactive.

💌 Feel free to DM us if you want to talk it through or see how we can support you.

👋 Hi everyone!

I’m Janelle, Senior Speech Pathologist at So to Speak, and I’m so passionate about helping children find their voice and build confidence in their communication 💛

My journey into speech pathology began while working as an Allied Health Assistant, where I saw firsthand the powerful impact communication can have on confidence, connection and everyday life. I went on to complete my Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Speech Pathology, and have since supported both children and adults across schools, community services and private practice.

Through these experiences, I’ve developed a collaborative, person-centred approach to therapy. I love creating sessions that are child-led, play-based and tailored to each child’s unique strengths, interests and goals so they feel safe, engaged and supported as they learn ✨

I’m especially passionate about helping children build confidence and develop self-advocacy skills throughout their communication journey. Watching children begin to express themselves in their own way is what makes this work so meaningful to me 💬

I look forward to meeting you and your child, and supporting you both every step of the way 💫

Let’s give Janelle a very warm So to Speak welcome! 💛

🌍 World Voice Day 💬✨
Tips for Keeping Little Voices Healthy

Little voices are busy every day, chatting, singing, laughing and learning! Here are some simple ways to help keep your child’s voice happy and healthy 💖

💧 Keep them hydrated
Water is best! Staying hydrated helps keep vocal cords working smoothly.

🔊 Use an “inside voice”
Encourage kids to avoid yelling or screaming (especially during play). Try modelling a calm, strong voice instead.

😮‍💨 Teach gentle throat habits
Discourage constant throat clearing or loud coughing, these can strain little voices.

🎤 Take voice breaks
After lots of talking, singing or excitement, encourage some quiet time to rest their voice.

🤧 Look after sniffles & coughs
When kids are unwell, their voices can be more sensitive, extra rest and fluids go a long way.

👂 Listen for changes

If your child’s voice sounds hoarse or raspy for more than a couple of weeks, it might be worth checking in with a professional.

Healthy voices = confident communicators 💬✨

If you have any concerns about your child’s voice or speech, our team is always here to help 💛

🌿 Perth Play Spotlight: Hyde Park

Looking for a beautiful, central spot for a play date or relaxed family outing? Hyde Park is a Perth favourite, and for good reason 💛

Why we love it:
💚 Two great playground areas with equipment suited for different ages
💚 Accessible playground spaces so more little ones can join in the fun ♿✨
💚 A communication board available, such a wonderful inclusion to support all ways of communicating 💬
💚 Gorgeous shady trees, open grass areas, and plenty of room to explore
💚 The lakes are perfect for duck spotting and adding a little nature magic to your visit 🦆✨
💚 Cafés nearby make it easy to grab a coffee and stay a while

How you can make it speech & development friendly:
✅ Use the communication board to model words and choices with your child
✅ Turn your walk into a language adventure—talk about what you see, hear and feel
✅ Encourage choices (“Playground or ducks first?”) to build communication
✅ Model simple phrases during play like “my turn”, “go up”, “more play”
✅ Pause and wait—give your little one time to respond, request or comment 💬

Hyde Park is such a special spot for combining play, nature and inclusive communication, perfect for supporting little learners in a fun, relaxed way 🌿

Team building, but make it ✨actually fun✨ 💅

Today we swapped the clinic space for paintbrushes and high tea at Turquoise Cafe 🎨🫖

A few cheeky cocktails, lots of laughs, and memories made the right way 🥂💕

Safe to say… this is how team bonding should be done 😌

When the clinic owner’s daughter popped in and met our new Speechie, Janelle, she was seriously impressed! We’re beyond grateful to have Janelle on the team—she’s already bringing so much warmth and expertise. Welcome, Janelle!
