☀️ The correct way to apply sunscreen:

Use about 1 teaspoon (5ml) for each arm, leg, front of body, back of body and half a teaspoon for the face 😊

A generous amount of sunscreen is needed, and many people don’t apply enough. The average sized adult needs about 7 teaspoons of sunscreen for their whole body (35ml).

Also, for sunscreen to be effective it needs to be applied 20 minutes before going outside 👩‍⚕️

Every Australian grows up being warned of the dangers of skin cancer because it is just so prevalent throughout the nation🇦🇺.

The sun hasn't changed over the years, so all Australians are at high risk of skin cancer from prolonged, direct exposure to the UV light in sunlight🌞.

For a nation as outdoors-oriented as Australia, this is a tricky balancing act😬.

On one hand, the weather is conducive to an active outdoor lifestyle, and on the other hand, it is also conducive to causing skin cancers.

No matter what you do always wear a hat or a cap when you are out and about and stay in the shade or a sheltered area where possible👍

Did you know we can treat skin cancer non-invasively? 😊

Being a state of the art service we are able to offer a variety of treatment plans to our patient using some of the high-end equipment.

🔸 What is non -invasive treatment?

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a non-invasive technique that uses a combination of a photosensitising drug and a special form of light (such as a laser).

🔸 How does it work?

The photosensitising drug makes the skin cells more sensitive to light, which allows the light treatment to be more effective.

Depending on the location of the affected area, the photosensitising drug is either applied to the skin or put into the bloodstream via a vein. The light activates the drug, which has been absorbed by the affected skin cells.

🔸 Where can this be used?

As a treatment, PDT can only be used on areas light can reach, such as the outer surface of the skin, and PDT can be an alternative to surgery for thin basal cell cancers, Bowen's disease and actinic keratosis

Do you know the two types of sun's radiation? ☀️
Its UVA and UVB 🌞 and both are dangerous to your skin.

UVB rays have shorter wavelengths, which means they have more energy and are more damaging to the top layers of skin cells. Scientists used to think that only UVB rays increased the risk of cancer and premature aging. But more recent research shows that UVA rays are also harmful 👒

Studies of indoor tanning - which uses mostly UVA rays - have found that it greatly increases the risk of both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.

So always be sun smart and try avoiding indoor tan where possible🧢😎

What is a SPF (sun protection factor) rating?🤔

The SPF rating system is used to show the degree of protection the sunscreen offers. So SPF30 means that 1/30th of the harmful radiation will reach the skin👩‍⚕️

This is only an imperfect measure, as no sunscreen blocks out 100% of the cancer-causing radiation, so it is not to be used as the sole preventative measure ☀️

Always Slip on a shirt, Slop on sunscreen and Slap on a hat 👒
