Today we recognise International Women’s Day and the important role women play in shaping our organisations, communities, and sectors.
In this short conversation, TADWA CEO Dr Gill Walker reflects on leadership, and the impact women continue to have across the community.
Strong leadership and inclusive thinking are essential to building organisations that respond to the needs of the people we serve. At TADWA, these principles guide our work every day.
Thank you to Gill for sharing her perspective and for the leadership she brings to TADWA and the broader sector.
TADWA is pleased to share that we have been awarded a 2026 Community Training Grant from the Australian Institute of Management WA.

From Roadside Find to International Reunion
A simple act of kindness recently turned into an extraordinary story of teamwork and cultural connection.
While completing a Home Modifications job in Lancelin, TADWA installer Olaf spotted a wallet on the side of the road. He picked it up and searched for identification - but all cards and documents were in Chinese.
Olaf brought the wallet back to head office in Bassendean, handing it to his manager Ian, who then connected with our Technology Services team. Yi, who is fluent in Chinese, was able to translate the details and share the information through his local community networks.
Before long, a tour group organiser made contact - the wallet belonged to one of his guests visiting Western Australia, who had unknowingly dropped it in Lancelin.
The organiser came to Bassendean to collect the wallet, relieved to be able to return it to its owner - a visiting government official from China whose official identification and cards were all inside.
Thanks to Olaf’s honesty, Ian’s quick action, and Yi’s language skills, the gentleman avoided the stress of replacing critical documents and will return home with peace of mind.
This story is a powerful reminder of what makes TADWA special: people who step up, work across teams, and bring diverse skills together to create meaningful outcomes.
