Bedtime is more than just a routine; it is a chance to connect and build language 🌙

As you get your child ready for bed, try talking them through what is happening: “night night clothes,” “night night lights,” “night night outside.”

Simple, consistent routines can help little ones settle more easily.

Next time you’re cooking with your child, turn it into a little sensory adventure!

Invite them to notice the colours, textures, and smells as they help prepare the food. Keep it low pressure, there’s no need for them to taste or eat anything if they don’t want to. Instead, try gentle prompts like, “What does this feel like?” or “How does this smell?”

These small moments can build curiosity, confidence, and a positive connection with food.

🌱 Parents and caregivers, your voice matters.

As part of our work to develop an Eating Disorder Safe First 2000 Days Implementation Strategy, NEDC is seeking input from families across Australia.

The First 2000 Days from pregnancy to age five is a foundational period for children’s development and for shaping everyday environments around food, bodies, wellbeing and care.

By sharing your experiences, you can help us better understand what supports families well and where challenges remain.

If you are currently expecting or caring for a child aged 0 to 5, we invite you to take part in our short online survey.

Your lived experience will directly contribute to shaping a national and collaborative approach to creating more eating disorder safe environments for children and families.

Today we celebrate all the incredible women who help shape little lives ❤

On International Women's Day, we honour not only mums, but grandmothers, aunties, carers, educators, health professionals, big sisters, and the many women who nurture, guide and inspire our children every day.

For children aged 0–5, these early relationships build the foundation for confidence and wellbeing. The love, patience and strength you show, in big moments and small everyday ones, truly matters.

Here’s to the women who help our little ones grow 🌱

Show your little ones how food comes to life by planting herbs, lettuce or sprouts in small pots or jars. Watch them grow together and invite your child to pick what you need at mealtimes 🥗

Growing food is a fun, hands on way to teach children where fresh ingredients come from. It builds confidence, sparks curiosity and gives them a proud moment when they see something they’ve grown on their plate. Try this simple trick on your next grocery run 🛒

Instead of rushing through the produce section, pause and let your child choose one new fruit or vegetable to try at home.

Then get curious:
🥦 “What made you pick that?”
🍓 “How should we eat it?”
🥕 “Should we cook it or taste it raw?”

When kids feel like they have a say, something shifts. They’re more open and willing to try their choice. You’re not just buying groceries, you’re building confidence, independence, and adventurous eaters.

It’s a small moment that can make a big difference at the dinner table.
