January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. In November 2025, the Australian Government announced that Australia is on track to eliminate cervical cancer by 2035. Achieving this goal relies on continued HPV vaccination for young people and staying up to date with regular cervical screening. If you’re planning to start fertility treatment, it’s a good time to check that your cervical screening is current as part of your fertility checks.

Everyday products, from cosmetics and cleaning items to kitchenware and plastics, can contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals, which interfere with your hormones and can affect reproductive health and fertility. Small swaps at home, like choosing phthalate-free products and avoiding plastics, can reduce your exposure.

Have you thought about becoming a s***m donor? If you’re 18–46, in good health, able to provide your family medical history, and an Australian citizen or permanent resident, you might qualify. Under WA law, each donor can contribute to a maximum of five families worldwide. Becoming a donor is a meaningful way to help someone create the family they’ve always dreamed of.

Va**ng isn’t harmless, especially if you’re trying to conceive. Research shows that va**ng can harm reproductive health, affecting both s***m and egg quality. If you’re trying to conceive or starting fertility treatment, quitting smoking and va**ng is the best first step.

WA’s parliament has passed long-awaited updates to the state’s reproductive legislation, marking an important step toward more inclusive and accessible fertility care. These changes will allow more people to seek treatment, including single individuals and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. They will also remove the need to prove medical infertility and improve access to information for donor-conceived people. The new laws will take effect after an approx. 18-month implementation period, once supporting regulations are finalised. Great news for reproductive care in WA!

As Movember wraps up, it’s important to include fertility in the conversation about men’s health.
Around 40% of infertility cases involve male factors, but some of these causes can be improved with simple lifestyle changes. To support s***m health: quit smoking, avoid saunas, limit alcohol, stay active, maintain a healthy weight and steer clear of anabolic steroids. Small changes now can impact future fertility.
