I reckon that before 8am today there could have been at least 20 things that made me a little angry-
* why did that truck drive past my house so loudly at 4.30am?
* Why have you left that on the bench?
* Why aren't your shoes on?
* Why aren't MY shoes on?
There are a multitude of things that can quite frankly give you the sh*ts! But ultimately they only bothered me, no-one else was even the slightest bit worried.
And when I reflect on anger, it really seems a bit like a blame game. And in that space, you lose your power. Because it is only you who can choose and regulate your emotions. And if you choose anger regularly, it will be you who plays over that conversation a hundred times or you who is cranky all day.
Never dismiss your emotions though - acknowledge and move on. Feel it but don't let it fester. Holding tightly to an emotion that makes you feel yucky just doesn't serve you.
Reiki has 5 very amazing principles and one of them is
'Just for today, I will not anger'.
When I read this, I already feel calmer.
I think the 'Just for today' part seems achievable. Slowly, step by step, don't be hard on yourself.
And the 'I will not anger' part sets a goal, an affirmation to practise throughout your day. For me this helps choose a calmer, clearer day.
And when I take the time to sit by the river and read a book - life is good!
So for today, just for today, I will not anger.
