Is sparkling water actually good for you? 💧✨
It can be a great alternative to sugary drinks - but like most things, context matters.
Here’s what the evidence actually supports:
• Kidney stones: Plain sparkling water has not been shown to increase the risk of Kidney stones. The biggest protective factor is overall fluid intake - staying well hydrated helps prevent stones 🪨
• Teeth: Carbonation makes the drink mildly acidic, which may contribute to enamel wear over time with frequent sipping 🦷
• Gut: IBS sufferers experience discomfort, bloating or reflux symptoms with carbonated water 🌬️
Key point: hydration quality and quantity matter more than carbonation. Plain water remains the gold standard, and sparkling water is fine as an occasional alternative if well tolerated.
Longevity tip: choose what you can sustain - but prioritise consistent hydration over trends.
