WIRF & King Edward Memorial Hospital Op Shop

Located on the lower ground floor of KEMH, the friendly volunteer run WIRF Op Shop stocks pre-loved clothing for babies and women.

All proceeds help our mission to support research for improved health of women, preterm birth and gynaecological diseases. The Women & Infants Research Foundation's (WIRF) Opportunity Shop at King Edward Memorial Hospital is a great place to grab a quality bargain or donate your nearly new baby and maternity items. Our Op Shop is located on the lower ground floor of the hospital near to the cashier. WIRF coordinates nearly 100 volunteers who work tirelessly to support the Foundation, the hospital and patients and Staff at King Edward Memorial Hospital. In addition to this, we have over 300 community knitters and sewers who make specialised garments for use in the hospital’s special care nursery, and comfort blankets for the oncology patients. Our Op Shop accepts pre-loved women's and babies clothing into a donation bin located outside the Op Shop. All donated, pre-loved items go a long way toward helping the patients of our hospital source much needed clothing for themselves and their babies, and assist WIRF to conduct essential research studies into women and infants health.

When you donate to the WIRF & KEMH Op Shop, you're supporting women, infants and families right here at KEMH. To make sure your donation makes the biggest impact, here’s what we can and can’t accept:

👶 Children’s clothing (sizes 000000 to 3 years)
👗 Women’s clothing (sizes 6 to 24, including maternity wear)
✨ Items that are clean, stain-free and in good condition

❌ We Cannot Accept

After retiring, Patrice wanted to put her energy into helping others. Fortunately, a friend suggested she join WIRF as a volunteer—and we’re so glad she did!

Since 2020, she has been the incredible force behind our Op Shop Store Room, ensuring everything runs smoothly. But for Patrice, the most rewarding part isn’t just helping patients and shoppers find quality pre-loved clothing—it’s the friendships built along the way.

We just had to share this beautiful story 💜

In neonatal intensive care units, the smallest comforts can make the biggest difference.

For premature babies surrounded by tubes and wires, something soft to hold can bring calm, connection, and reassurance.

With time, care, and compassion, Bernice Joy Luxford has hand-crafted and donated over 700 octopus toys, each one offering comfort not only to tiny patients but to their caregivers as well.

Her generosity is a shining example of the kindness that lifts others when they need it most.

A simple act of love, repeated hundreds of times, reminds families they’re not alone.
