A Seniors Week Fete to Remember 💚

Our Auditorium at Bethanie Dalyellup Community Housing was buzzing with joy as residents, families and friends came together for a vibrant Fete filled with raffles, dress try-ons, shared plates and a classic sausage sizzle.

From the chocolate wheel to the beautifully restored antique rocking horse, the day was packed with heartfelt moments and a strong sense of community. Funds raised will support the Royal Flying Doctors and the Cancer Council - thank you to everyone who made the day so special.

A Rose-Inspired Spread for a Remarkable 111th 🌹

As we celebrated the remarkable 111th birthday of our cherished resident, Bridget Grocke, the Bethanie Subiaco team went above and beyond to make the day truly special.

From an extravagant rose-themed cake to canapés inspired by her favourite food, fruit toast with Vegemite, the morning tea was a heartfelt reflection of our team’s admiration and love for Bridget.

'This sort of celebration seems to give her a second life.'

19/11/2025

Today, Perth great-grandmother, Bridget Grocke, is celebrating her 111th birthday.

Reminiscing on her “wonderful and full” life, WA's second-oldest citizen said one of her favourite years was her 100th. Friends and family travelled from near and far for her big birthday bash.

"It was a huge party and she walked around wearing the 100 glasses that had sparkles on the top of them, like Dame Edna. She looked fabulous," Jan Robertson, Bridget's daughter, told .

Born in 1914, Bridget has lived through two world wars, watched man land on the moon, the invention of the television, and hers was the first house on the block to own an ebonite rotary phone.

Gone with the Wind is her favourite movie, because it's the first film she saw in colour.

A mother to four, a grandmother to ten and a great-grandmother to another ten, Bridget's family means a lot to her and it's clear her family feel the same way, describing her as 'a treasure'.

Happy birthday, Bridget!

🌹 Celebrating 111 Years of Bridget Grocke: A Life in Full Bloom! 🌹

Today, we celebrate our beloved resident, Bridget Grocke, turning 111, a true milestone!

Bridget’s life is a story of resilience, grace, and joy in the simple things, like her cherished white roses.

To mark the occasion, the Bethanie Subiaco team created a rose-themed morning tea for Bridget, her family, and friends.

Bethanie Subiaco Facility Manager, Juan Di, said Bridget’s presence is felt by everyone in the community:

“Her resilience and grace inspire those around her, and the joy she finds in her roses reminds us all to cherish the simple, beautiful moments in everyday life. Celebrating 111 years with Bridget is a privilege and a reminder of how much one life can impact so many others.”

Happy 111th birthday, Bridget! Thank you for inspiring us all to cherish life’s beautiful moments.

Bethanie Housing Gala: A Celebration of Creativity and Community

Creativity and connection were on full display at our BHL Gala, with Community Housing tenants showcasing their creations – from bonsai trees to handmade jewellery. Interim Bethanie Housing Ltd. CEO, Lindsay O'Sullivan, addressed the day, and we were grateful to welcome Mayor Amber Kearns from the City of Mandurah.

With a unicorn to pat, a ‘Support at Home’ talk from our ACNS team, and a delicious lunch with games thanks to the Eastlake Church team, it was a celebration of community spirit.

A Life of Courage: Russell’s Story

Russell Hosken’s story is one of quiet courage and enduring service. At 102, Russ reflects on his time defending Fremantle Port and supporting frontline efforts during WWII. We’re honoured to have Russ in our Bethanie community – a living link to history and a reminder of the strength and sacrifice of those who served. Lest we forget.

A Moment of Reflection Across Bethanie

Across our homes, villages, and communities, our Chaplaincy team held Remembrance Day services and commemorations, bringing people together in reflection.

As we paused in silence, we felt gratitude for those who had served, for those who continued to serve, and for the peace we were fortunate to share.

Lest we forget.
