Without it I wouldn’t be writing this post.

Without it my kids would be way more fu**ed up that what they are.

Without it I can’t do hard things.

Without it I don’t know what’s important in my life

Without my sādhanā I am lost.

It’s what reorientes me. What allows me to be present, stay humble.

Be curious with myself and my clients.

It’s why - when tested like I have been this last year - I’m resilient.

It’s why I can connect with love and even in the darkest moments allow love in, give love and gently keep going.

The Active Series raises lots of questions for Ashtanga practitioners. For some, there is a great deal of discomfort. For students, especially those aging, who are busy or young people - this sequence is adored.

Is it a new Ashtanga sequence? What is Ashtanga? Who decides? 🤔

What do you think - if the lineage holder of Ashtanga creates a new sequence, is that an Ashtanga sequence? Why are some long time students of Sharath not so interested in this iteration of his practice and don’t teach it? Love to hear your thoughts? 🧡

When we practice Yin Yoga, we settle into stillness. Although it is still a physical practice, our attention is shifted inward. 🌸

What happens when we still the body?
Usually, the mind starts to get really busy.

💬 What’s for dinner?
💬 Oh, I need to pay that bill.
💬 Must remember to text so and so.

It’s very easy to get carried away with the thoughts, and sometimes that might be what we need in the moment.

However, we can find an anchor - the breath, the teacher’s voice, or the sound of the music.

In this class, Jean uses a playlist based on clinical trials of psychedelics for mental health.

She intertwines pranayama, or “breath control” which unlike modern day ‘breath work’ is taught in a trauma-sensitive way.

The mental health of young people is in crisis like never before.

Emergency department visits are rising, self-harm is increasing, and nearly 70% of children who need specialised mental health care can’t access it.

There’s no single cause but we know kids are under more pressure than ever. Cost of living stress, the long shadow of Covid, climate anxiety, and an uncertain future all play a role.

So what can we do?

Research (and lived experience) tells us yoga and mindfulness support youth mental health. Helping with anxiety, depression, stress and ADHD. That’s why we’ve launched our Kids & Teens Online Yoga Course, and why teens are always welcome in our general classes.

These 8 reflections are for parents and non-parents.
Sometimes being a safe adult, a steady presence, or someone who truly listens can be life-saving.
