The reality of current serving members of Defence is often shaped by ongoing responsibility, constant readiness, and experiences that don’t always switch off when the day ends.

Many continue to carry the impact of their role beyond work hours, whether that shows up in sleep, stress levels, or difficulty winding down. Time away from home and the need to stay alert can also affect how people reconnect with everyday life.

These experiences are not always visible, but they are not uncommon.

At Sound Psychology, our clinicians work with current and former Defence members in a confidential setting, providing space to talk through what’s been carried and how it’s affecting day-to-day life.

Changing habits is rarely about doing more. It’s often about starting in a way that feels possible, and repeating it often enough that it begins to settle into your routine.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟯–𝟯–𝟯 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗛𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 is one way of thinking about this process over time. Rather than expecting immediate results, it allows space for small steps, consistency, and gradual adjustment.

Habits tend to shift more sustainably when they’re built around real life, not ideal conditions.

At Sound Psychology, our clinicians work with people to understand the patterns behind their habits and find ways to approach change that feel more manageable.

Getting to know the people behind the practice can make things feel a little more familiar.

Sanri brings a thoughtful and steady presence to her work, alongside a strong appreciation for movement, creativity, and time spent outdoors. Whether it’s through staying active, being in nature, or creative expression, these parts of her life reflect the balance she values both in and outside the therapy space.

We’re glad to have her as part of the Sound Psychology team. 🦋

Changes in mood, energy, sleep, and emotional regulation can shift how conversations feel, how conflict is experienced, and how much capacity is available day to day. This can affect connection in ways that are not always easy to explain.

For many women, it’s not just about managing symptoms, but also understanding how these changes are influencing their relationships.

Some habits don’t start as problems.

They often begin as small ways of coping, filling time, or taking the edge off a difficult moment. Over time, they can become automatic, showing up before we’ve had a chance to think about it.

Understanding what a habit is doing for you can be an important step toward changing it.

At Sound Psychology, our clinicians work with people to explore these patterns and support gradual, realistic change.

Many people assume they need a referral to see a psychologist, but that’s not always the case.

At Sound Psychology, you can book an appointment directly. A referral is only required if you are looking to access Medicare rebates or funded sessions such as through a Mental Health Care Plan or DVA.

For some people, starting with a private appointment can feel like a simpler first step.

For some people, the need for reassurance can become a regular part of how they cope with uncertainty.

It can feel like the quickest way to settle a thought or ease discomfort, even if the relief only lasts for a short time. Over time, this pattern can become frustrating, especially when the same questions keep returning.

Shifting this pattern doesn’t usually happen all at once. It often begins with small changes in how we respond to those moments of doubt or discomfort.

At Sound Psychology, our clinicians work with people to better understand these patterns and develop ways to respond to them differently.

It’s easy for children and teens to be measured by how they perform, behave, or appear on the outside.

But what’s happening internally matters just as much — if not more.

When young people feel supported, understood, and safe to express what’s going on, it can make a meaningful difference in how they navigate challenges as they grow.

Sound Psychology offers support for adolescents (12–18), including neurodiverse individuals, in a respectful and understanding space.

Energy can feel different during perimenopause and menopause. What once felt manageable may now take more effort, and pushing through often leads to deeper fatigue.

Protecting energy at this stage isn’t about doing less for the sake of it. It’s about responding more thoughtfully to what your mind and body need now.

Some women find it helpful to come back to simple anchors like the 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗣𝘀: 𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 — not as rules, but as gentle ways to move through the day with more awareness and care.

Reassurance can feel helpful in the moment.

It can settle the discomfort, ease the uncertainty, and give a sense that things are okay. But for some people, that relief doesn’t last long. The same question returns, and the need to check or ask comes back with it.

Over time, this pattern can become exhausting, as the mind keeps searching for certainty that doesn’t last.

Stepping back and understanding what is driving that need for reassurance can be an important part of changing the pattern.

At Sound Psychology, we work with people navigating anxiety, overthinking, and patterns that feel difficult to shift.
