CKHA is proud to join organizations across Ontario in recognizing World Delirium Day — and to welcome the travelling World Delirium Awareness Flag to our organization!
As a proud member of the Ontario Health Delirium Aware Safer Healthcare (DASH) community of practice, CKHA continues to advance delirium awareness, education, and prevention across our organization.
Here are just some of the ways we’re strengthening delirium care for patients, families, and staff:
🔹 In 2024, CKHA established a dedicated Delirium Working Group to drive improvements in delirium prevention and care.
🔹 In 2025, we launched a delirium-specific education curriculum for staff across the organization and were awarded an Innovation Grant to create Delirium Prevention Kits — rolling out on our units this December.
🔹 Since 2018, our Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) has supported daily delirium prevention through a specialized volunteer team engaging elder patients in meaningful, interactive activities proven to reduce delirium risk.
🔹 HELP also partners with the Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent each year to host a World Delirium Day awareness booth and proudly display the World Delirium Awareness Flag.
🔹 CKHA’s Elder Life Specialist further strengthens community awareness by guest lecturing at a local high school and college, helping students understand delirium, its impact on hospitalized elders, and the vital role HELP volunteers play.
💛 Today, we celebrate the team members, volunteers, partners, and learners who work together to reduce delirium and support safer, elder-friendly care across CKHA.
