Midwives of Chatham-Kent

Ontario midwives are experts in normal pregnancy, birth and newborn care. All care is covered by OHIP, and services are free to non-OHIP carriers excluding costs of labs/ultrasounds/hospital-incurred fees. Midwives are skilled to attend birth both in hospital and home.

Today, we stand in solidarity with the Indigenous community, because Every Child Matters. Orange Shirt Day is inspired by Phyllis Webstad’s story of losing her new orange shirt at residential school. It reminds us that every child’s experience is valid and important. 🧑

Informed choice is foundational to midwifery care.

The Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC) has reaffirmed its position: acetaminophen remains a first-line option for pain and fever during pregnancy when used as recommended. Health Canada also maintains there is no conclusive evidence linking acetaminophen use in pregnancy to autism or other neurodevelopmental disorders.

Midwives support clients with evidence-based information to guide decision-making. If you have questions or concerns about using acetaminophen in pregnancy, talk to your midwife or other health-care provider.

The SOGC has issued a position statement reaffirming that acetaminophen remains a safe and appropriate first-line option for managing fever and pain during pregnancy when medically needed.

Despite claims suggesting a link between prenatal exposure to acetaminophen and certain neurodevelopmental disorders, the SOGC notes that the evidence for these claims is weak and has been consistently refuted by scientific and regulatory bodies.
In an age of growing misinformation, the SOGC urges Canadians to rely on evidence-based science and clinical expertise.
