WORLD COPD DAY
November 19, 2025
Today is World COPD Day I write to share with you the new COPD awareness campaign that we are launching today. World COPD Day is organized by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) in collaboration with health care professionals and COPD patient groups throughout the world. The primary goal of World COPD Day is to increase awareness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. COPD Canada is proud to be a participant in this global awareness campaign https://www.copdcanada.info/world-copd-day-2025
Each year GOLD chooses a theme and coordinates the preparation and distribution of World COPD Day materials and resources with organizations in each participating country. The theme for 2025 is: "Short of Breath, Think COPD" Stated simply, we are arriving late to initiate disease-modifying therapies for COPD or preventive measures such as smoking cessation. Although chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is less common in the young, it’s never too early to protect the lungs. The most important way to prevent COPD is to not smoke ci******es, don't v**e and avoid exposure to second-hand smoke, air pollution, chemical fumes, or dust from the environment or workplace. If your breathing is restricted or laboured, you experience bouts of breathlessness, you should ask your doctor for a lung function test. You need to be aware of the early stages of COPD and be proactive.
"Short of Breath, Think COPD" This year's theme highlights the importance of being aware of your lung health, the importance of early diagnosis, and the benefits of early interventions on your health and quality of life. Please share this information with others who are or think they may be impacted by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Thank you
