Have you heard of fire cupping? 🔥

Fire cupping is a therapeutic technique used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and commonly offered by licensed acupuncturists, including Laurie, our skilled acupuncturist here at Enhanced Healing! 🩵

During treatment, glass cups are briefly heated and placed on the skin to create gentle suction that lifts the tissue and stimulates circulation.

How it works:
➡️ Creates suction to gently lift muscles and fascia
➡️ Encourages blood flow to tight or stagnant areas
➡️ Supports the body’s natural healing response

Potential benefits:
✨ Relief from muscle tension and soreness
✨ Reduced neck, shoulder, and back pain
✨ Improved mobility and flexibility
✨ Support for sports recovery
✨ Deep relaxation and nervous system regulation

You may notice circular marks on the skin after treatment. They’re a normal response to increased circulation and typically fade within a few days.

Fire cupping can be used on its own or combined with acupuncture and other therapies as part of a personalized treatment plan.

Curious about fire cupping or other acupuncture treatments? Laurie is accepting patients at our clinic on Ambrosi Road!

Recovery is an essential part of staying active—whether you’re training hard, playing recreational sports, or simply trying to move and feel better! 💪

After exercise, the body goes through a natural repair process that can include muscle soreness (DOMS), inflammation, and temporary stiffness. Supporting recovery can help tissues adapt, maintain mobility, and reduce injury and strain on the body over time.

At Enhanced Healing, we offer several therapies that can assist in your recovery, including:

🩵 Massage Therapy including sports massage, deep tissue massage, and more
🩵 Acupuncture including orthopedic needling, fire cupping, and myofascial techniques
🩵 Physiotherapy with manual therapy and rehabilitation strategies
🩵 Osteopathy for whole-body structural support

Each therapy offers a different perspective, and sometimes a combination of approaches can provide the best support for recovery and long-term movement health.

For a winter celebration, the Enhanced Healing Massage Therapy team gathered in a place that leads with land first: 🌱

We were welcomed onto the active agricultural land of Kinnikinnik Landing, a gathering place rooted in seasonal rhythms, care for the land, and the long view of stewardship. Being there reminded us that wellness doesn’t start in a treatment room—it starts with how we relate to the environment around us.

The evening unfolded peacefully with hot tea, warm lighting, and space to breathe surrounded by the beauty of nature.

We were also guided through a sound bath with , offering a moment to listen inward and settle our nervous systems after a full season of caring for others. 🤲

We feel genuinely grateful to have been invited into this place. To sit, tend connection, and mark the season together in a way that felt real and unhurried.

Thank you, Kinnikinnik, for holding space with such intention—and to our community of practitioners for showing up now just as cowokers, but as kin.

As health practitioners, we know care has to be lived, not just offered... and this was a gentle, meaningful way to tend to ourselves together. 🤍✨

At Enhanced Healing Massage Therapy, we believe healing starts with being listened to 💙

These kind words from a patient reflect what we hope every person feels when they walk through our doors: seen, heard, and supported.

After years of chronic neck pain and limited mobility, they shared that they can finally move freely again—not just because of technique, but because of care, presence, and real attention to what their body needed. ✨

We’re grateful for trust like this, and for practitioners like Kolten who lead with skill, listening, and professionalism.

When someone says, “I felt listened to,” we know we’re doing something right!

💧 Lymphatic drainage 101

Your lymphatic system doesn’t have a pump like your heart—it relies on movement and gentle pressure to do its job.

Lymphatic drainage massage uses light, rhythmic strokes to:

➡️ Encourage lymph fluid to move
➡️ Help reduce swelling and fluid buildup
➡️ Support healing after injury or surgery
➡️ Ease puffiness and inflammation

It’s not always about deep tissue—and it’s not meant to be.

Gentle is what tells the lymph system, “Hey, it’s safe to drain now.”

Perfect for post-injury, post-surgery, or anyone dealing with swelling or heaviness.

Did you know your muscles do not technically store toxins? 💪

Detoxification is handled by the liver and kidneys.

What massage therapy does influence is fascial mobility, circulation, lymphatic flow, and nervous system activity. These effects can reduce inflammation, improve tissue healing after injury, and restore normal movement between tissue layers.
..and leave us with that "ahhh, I feel so much better ☺️" feeling.

The result is reduced pain, improved range of motion, and a greater sense of physical ease—not because toxins were expelled, but because tissue function, recovery processes, and nervous system regulation were supported.

Sciatica is a symptom—not a diagnosis. And not all leg pain comes from the same source. 🦵💥

If you’re dealing with leg pain, there’s a chance it’s Sciatica or Piriformis Syndrome. They are often confused, but here are some key differences:

➡️ True sciatica

Happens when the sciatic nerve is irritated or compressed at the spine—often from a disc bulge or spinal issue.

Pain typically travels from the low back, through the hip, and down the leg.

Signs that may suggest sciatica:

- Pain that travels from the low back or hip down one leg
- Pain mostly on one side of the body
- Sharp, burning, or electric-like pain
- Tingling or numbness in the leg or foot
- Pain that gets worse with sitting, coughing, or sneezing
- Weakness in the leg or foot
- Pain that follows a clear path (butt → thigh → calf → foot)

➡️ Piriformis syndrome

Happens when a small muscle deep in the glute (the piriformis) presses on the sciatic nerve.

Pain is usually felt in the butt and may radiate down the leg—but the source is muscular, not spinal.

Signs that may suggest piriformis syndrome:

- Deep ache in the buttock
- Pain that may travel down the back of the thigh (but usually not all the way to the foot)
- Pain that worsens with sitting for long periods
- Pain when standing up from sitting
- Pain with walking, running, or climbing stairs
- Tenderness when pressing on the buttock muscle
- Limited hip rotation or discomfort with hip movement

Why this matters for massage therapy 👇

✔ Piriformis-related pain often responds well to targeted soft tissue work

✔ True sciatica may benefit from massage as supportive care (reducing tension and guarding), but usually needs a broader treatment approach

✔ Treating the wrong source = slower results

This is why proper assessment matters—not just chasing the symptom, but understanding the cause.

It’s important to see a medical professional for a proper diagnosis. At Enhanced Healing, we offer assessments at the start of your session to ensure your treatment is personalized to your needs. 💆 ✨

Did you know massage therapy isn’t limited to hands alone? Some Registered Massage Therapists may incorporate specialized tools into treatment when appropriate, depending on the client’s needs and comfort. 💆

These tools are often used to help assess and address areas of tissue restriction, support circulation, and reduce muscular tension—particularly in spots that are difficult to treat with hands alone. They can also allow for more precise work while reducing strain on the therapist’s hands during longer or more targeted sessions. 🤲

Massage tools are never used randomly or forcefully. They’re applied thoughtfully and professionally as part of a personalized treatment plan, and always with client consent and communication throughout the session.

Different bodies respond to different techniques—and tools are simply one of many ways RMTs adapt care to support effective, comfortable treatment!
