Navigating Springtime Grief with McCaw Funeral Service

Spring's focus on renewal and life can intensify feelings of grief, creating a painful contrast with personal sorrow. This "dissonance" is normal, especially around spring holidays like Easter, Mother's Day, and Father's Day, which amplify the sense of loss and isolation.

Finding Ways to Cope:
Acknowledge Your Pace: Allow yourself to grieve without pressure to match the external cheerfulness of the season.
Embrace Renewal: Use the season's symbolism of growth as a gentle reminder that change and healing are possible, even if slow.
Create a Spring Ritual: Honor your loved one by planting a memorial garden or tree to connect with the life the season represents.
Seek Support: Utilize nature for therapeutic comfort, and remember that the team at McCaw Funeral Service Ltd. is available to offer support throughout your mourning journey.

Cremation is a choice many families consider, and it often comes with questions. We’re here to help provide clarity and comfort during a difficult time.

Here are a few questions we’re often asked:

• What happens during the cremation process?
• Can we still have a service or celebration of life?
• How long does the process take?
• What options are there for memorials or urns?
• Can families be involved or present in any way?

Every family’s wishes are different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you’re planning ahead or navigating a recent loss, our team is here to guide you through each step with care and respect.

If you have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here when you need us.

Grief changes everything—but it also gently reminds us that life continues in new and meaningful ways.

After the loss of someone dear, “new beginnings” don’t mean forgetting. They mean carrying forward the love, the lessons, and the memories in a different way. It’s finding strength in the quiet moments, comfort in shared stories, and hope in the days ahead.

There’s no timeline for healing. Some days will feel heavy, others a little lighter—and both are part of the journey.

As you move forward, may you find peace in remembering, courage in continuing, and warmth in knowing that love never truly leaves us.

Myron Mervyn Sunderland, of Paradise Valley, AB, passed away on April 7, 2026 in Lloydminster, SK, at the age of 86.

Myron was born on October 23, 1939 in Rose Valley, SK to Edeth and Norma Sunderland. He was the oldest of six children.

Myron is survived by: his wife of 64 years, Donna; his son, Dale (Christine), their sons, Caleb (Elaan) and Ben (Lindsay), and daughter, Jenna (Leif); their daughter, Deanna (Pat), her son, Rocky (Kayti), daughter Rachelle, and son, Jordan (Jeana); son, Delmer (Karla), their daughters, Erin (Dan), Kady (Glen), and Jamee (Jared); 22 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, 4 brothers-in-law, 8 sister-in-laws, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Myron was predeceased by: his parents, Edeth and Norma; in-laws, Hermon and Lucy Adams; sister, Myrna Peregrym; and brother-in-law, Noel McDougall.

Always a farmer at heart, you couldn’t keep him off the combine in the fall, or the air seeder in the spring. Thanks to a lift, that was all made easier in his later years. None of it was work for him. For any who wanted a ride, the door was always open.

Nothing pleased him more than spending time with his family, watching grandkids at every sport. He was an avid Oiler fan and season ticket holder for many years.

Most of all, his love for Jesus shone through in every aspect of his life. His quiet wisdom was always available for those who took the time to listen. We are so grateful for a life well-lived.

The Funeral Service for Myron will be conducted from E.H. Walter School gymnasium in Paradise Valley, AB on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 10:30 AM with lunch to follow. If you are unable to attend in person, you may view the live streaming of the service posted on McCaw Funeral Service website under Myron's obituary.

Donations in Myron’s name can be given to a charity of your choice or the Paradise Valley Fire Department.

April Fool’s Day is often filled with laughter, stories, and moments we share with the people who matter most. 🤍

At McCaw Funeral Service, we’re reminded that some of the most meaningful memories we hold onto are the lighthearted ones—the jokes, the laughter, and the friendships that brought joy to everyday life.

Today, we honour those moments and the people who made them special. Because even in remembrance, it’s okay to smile. 💫
