Celebrating DEAM - Appreciation from Sherri-Lynn Piesinger, Training & Development Coordinator
"The organization has been in our community since 1972 supporting individuals with developmental disabilities! The Supported Employment Program has been active since the 1980’s. What once began as a sheltered workshop, where the plastic wedding flowers that everyone loves and remembers emerged as one of their projects, has now grown and expanded to become the community inclusive supported employment program we know today.
We currently have over 63 community businesses that partner and support our Supportive Employment Program.
Earlier this month we hosted a number of these businesses with a dinner party, enjoyed telling stories, shared laughs and celebrated these amazing partnerships. Our organization, along with the Lloydminster Exhibition participated in Light It Up on October 16th, where we lit up our buildings in purple lights to show our support for Disability Inclusive Employment.
The relationships that are built, the positivity that we are honoured to be a part of, while assisting with the growth of inclusive employers in our community, is truly rewarding.
I want to sincerely thank everyone that assisted, participated, and followed our month-long celebration of community inclusive employment.
If you or a community business you know, would like to learn more about Supportive Inclusive Employment and how to get involved with helping someone’s goals become a reality, please connect with myself at 780-875-9194 or 780-870-2631."
The month of October has been proclaimed as Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM), across Canada. It is the month in which we celebrate the successes, growth, and fulfillment felt by our individuals through meaningful employment, relationships, and inclusion within our community.
