Georgian Bay General Hospital, a medium sized hospital with sites in Midland and Penetanguishene, Ontario requires the services of a GP - Anesthetist to serve our medical units.

Applicants must be licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). At this time we will are unable to provide CPSO Low-Level Supervision for this position.

As a new member of our team, you will work with our four General Surgeons, visiting Orthopedic Surgeons (knee arthroscopies, shoulders), Urologists, OBGYN's, an Opthalmologist, four General Internists, and an experienced team of nurses.

You would be part of a 1 in 4 call schedule, and 1/4 of available daytime lists amounting to approximately 1 to 2 lists per week. A family practice and anesthesia rota, would like create an ideal pratice model and revenue stream.

Georgian Bay General Hospital has a busy ED (45,000 visits annually) which is staffed mainly by full-time ED Physicians, and some family physicians. Our 24/7 digital imaging suite includes X-Ray, Ultraound, and CT Scanner. We also have Ambulatory Care, Laboratory, Dialysis, Geriatric and Rehabilitation services.

GBGH serves a catchment area that includes the communities of Midland, Penetanguishene, Township of Tiny, Township of Tay, Christian Island, Georgian Bay Township and Springwater Township. We serve a population base of 55,000, swelling to more than 150,000 when seasonal residents return.

The Physician Recruitment Office is looking to expand its database of accommodation for new physicians relocating to the area, or coming in to work for extended periods of time. As well, we have medical students and medical residents who come to our area annually who require longer term accommodation - 9 months to a year.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Brian Gaffney is the Midland/Penetanguishene area's newest family physician and is accepting patients at the Bayfield House Medical Clinic in Penetanguishene.

Brian is the son of local family physician Dr. Greg Gaffney.

Brian attended Ecole Secondary LeCaron in Penetanguishene, and earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Biochemistry (French) from the University of Ottawa. He then attended medical school in both the Netherland Antilles and Ross University in Dominica. His residency training took him to Omaha, Nebraska where he specialized in rural family medicine.

Brian and his wife Justine Cooper (a nurse at GBGH), and their 17-month old recently purchased a home in the area. Brian's official first day was Tuesday, September 5.

Brian has a full scope practice including family medicine, and in-patient, obstetrics and emergency department coverage at Georgian Bay General Hospital.
