Hello friends! Lately, I had a couple of women ask me if everything was ok with because they don’t see me posting on social. So I thought I’d say hello and give you a little update.

All is going great! I’ve been busy formulating, offering my Face to Heart Treatments and we just had our very first WD Soulful Beauty Retreat at the end of February. It was absolutely wonderful! We’ll definitely hold more!
Our Spring Self-Care Box is coming up and things are busy in lovely and creative ways.

I’m focusing on formulating beautiful botanical skincare, the in-person connections and in-person services and I trust that this is how I can contribute in the most genuine ways.

I am also continuing my herbal medicine, skin care, and face massage studies. This is where I choose to focus and that’s where I direct my energy.

As much as social media can be helpful to a small business and it allows us to stay “connected” it is also an addictive thief of our precious time. To tell the truth I don’t have it in me to keep up with the constantly changing algorithms. I feel that most of the time, we end up keeping each other busy with things that don’t really add much value to our lives.

WD’s evolution from a Mindful to a Soulful Beauty Practice

When you find yourself to be the odd one of the bunch, it is even more important to take time to actually define who you are. You do this for yourself and also for the world. If you don’t, others will define it for you, and one day you’ll wake up to a life designed by others rather than by your heart.

When I started my work in skincare I was definitely the odd one of the bunch. I didn’t fit in within the beauty industry, its synthetic skincare products, 5 step routines and application of machines rather than hands in the treatment room. I was all about skin-healing plants, healthy food, and a whole lot of face massage.

It may be hard to believe today but at that time (late 90’s) my approach was very forward and breaking ground was not always easy. It took a while but eventually I found words to describe my ‘unique’ approach. I called it the ‘MINDFUL BEAUTY PRACTICE’.
It felt great to find words which honestly represented the essence of my work.
They spoke to the fact that I was being mindful about the products and ingredients which I used on my client’s skin, the foods for healthy skin I recommended, and the impact that my practice had on the environment.
It was also an invitation for my clients to become mindful in their daily practice, mindful about seasonal changes and the intricate connection of the skin to their internal health both physical and emotional.

And that’s how I defined what I did for myself and the world at that time.

Yet there is another layer. A natural evolution takes place when the nexus of the self shifts from the mind to the heart; the seat of our soul. It’s not that we want to disregard the mind but rather we choose for the heart to be the guide in all that we do. And then the mind harmoniously follows.

In the world driven by overwhelm, confusion, countless people presenting themselves as experts and new products popping up on the market every day, it’s become very important to be guided by our heart and our intuition in terms of our relationship to ourselves. Personally and as a business I am committed to this evolution Thus, a SOULFUL BEAUTY PRACTICE more appropriately defines where I create from and the impact of such a beauty approach on you and your life.

I see you as whole, confident and guided by your heart. I honour your beauty and your innate wisdom and I feel blessed to be part of your personal skincare experience. And if the word ‘soulful’ will make it into your beauty practice, then I trust that together we’ve made the world a better place!

So much of the conversation around skincare feels like two people speaking different languages. We forget to ask an important question first...Which lens is it that we are looking through? The mainstream one, treating the skin as separate from the rest of us, or the holistic one that sees every part of our being as interconnected.

Mainstream skincare often focuses on youthful appearance, fast results, and treating the surface not giving much thought to the deeper story. It’s a model built on dissection. isolated ingredients, invasive treatments, and a belief that appearance can be managed without acknowledging the body, mind, or lifestyle behind it.

Holistic skincare moves differently. It honours the skin as a living, intelligent organ connected to our inner world, health, our emotions, our habits, our environment, and the cycles of nature. It nourishes rather than forces. It looks to whole plants, circulation, breath, and lifestyle. It asks us to participate in our own wellbeing. It invites us to step into a more conscious, embodied relationship with ourselves.

Choosing a holistic path isn’t always the fastest or easiest. It requires presence, curiosity, and commitment. But it also offers a deeper kind of beauty. One rooted in vitality, integrity, and self-respect.

When we choose to care for the skin this way, we are really choosing how we want to engage with life. And that choice has the power to bring us back to our whole, beautiful selves.

As we go through life, we come across individuals who help shape our perception in profound ways.
A pioneering psychologist Dr.Paul Ekman is such in my life both professionally and personally. I never met him in person but I found his book ‘Emotions revealed’ nearly twenty years ago and have been following his work ever since.

“Dr. Ekman’s groundbreaking research transformed our understanding of human emotion, facial expression, deception and compassion. His work revolutionized and stimulated the field of emotion research and inspired applications across psychology, anthropology, education, law enforcement, and many other fields worldwide.
We can add a facialist to that list:) And I trust more than one.

Thanks to Dr. Ekman I was able to appreciate the significance of emotions, facial expression and facial tension patterns that we each hold. It solidified my believe in the importance of free facial expression in genuine human interactions and it gave more meaning to my face massage practice.

Dr. Paul Ekman passed away at 91 but his work will live on.

I wish to acknowledge his life and work with deep gratitude!

Dr. Ekman served as Scientific Advisor to the ‘Lie to me’ show. He analyzed and critiqued each episode’s script and taught the cast and crew about the science of deception detection.
