I suggest spiritual bathing to a lot of my clients. But what is a spiritual bath, really?

Unlike a regular bath that aims to cleanse the body, a spiritual bath works to cleanse the mind and spirit. We use powerful ingredients that charge the bathwater with healing vibrations and energetically assist with removing blockages. If I do any sort of energy healing in our session, I will always suggest a spiritual bath afterward! Even if we strip away the spiritual lingo, these kinds of baths are amazing for your mental health. It is about the ritual of self-care.

At the end of the day our vibrational energy and any energy work that we do is about intentions. Setting your intentions for your bath is where the power really lies. Do not worry about running out to buy every ingredient on the list below. As long as you have a couple of them handy, you can experience the peace and healing of a spiritual bath.

Ingredients you can use:

1: Salt:
Natural salt is one of the most powerful ingredients to release any kind of negative energies, thoughts and feelings that are proving to be blockages in your path. Pink Himalayan salt, natural sea salt and Epsom salt are great for this purpose and easily available in most grocery stores. Never use regular table salts because they contain anti-caking agents and have gone through a refining process that has removed many of the beneficial minerals.
2: Lavender:
Lavender is a great stress reliever, and you can use it in the form of dried buds (soaked in boiling water for an hour and strained) or pure essential oil.
3: Baking Soda:
Bicarbonate of soda, or baking soda, helps to clean negative debris from your aura, and leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth as well.
4: Goat’s Milk:
If you have been having a run of bad luck, then a spiritual bath with goat’s milk can help you turn around the situation. In a large bowl, add 3 cups of goat’s milk with a cup of holy water, sea salt and a handful of fresh parsley. (Parsley attracts good luck and wealth, and is also an herb associated with protection and purification.) Let the concoction sit for a few hours before straining the parsley out and pouring the remaining liquid into the bathtub.
5: Rose Cologne:
Rose cologne or rose water makes an excellent spiritual bath to uplift moods and make you feel more self-love if you’ve not been taking good care of yourself lately. Throw in some rose petals (fresh or dried) for good measure and let the fragrance of the bath fill your spirits with new energy and appreciation of who you are.
6: Sesame Seeds:
If you’ve been worrying about finances, then a spiritual bathwater infused with the vibration of sesame seeds (soaked for an hour in boiling water and strained) can help remove blockages and bring more abundance into your life.
7: Carnations:
Pink and red carnations soothe a broken heart and help guide you if you’re struggling with a love relationship. Boil fresh red and pink carnations in a pot of water with some coconut milk and honey. Strain the liquid and use as ingredients in your spiritual bath if you’re experiencing complications in your love life.
-----------

Remember to set your intentions as you place your ingredients in the bathtub. I also suggest showering and washing yourself first so that you enter your bath already clean. You should not use any soaps in a spiritual bath.

Once you are in the bath, soak for at least 20 minutes. Relax as much as possible and focus your thoughts on the intentions you set for your bath. Clear your mind and practice some grounding exercises to help you relax.

Enjoy!

It is important that I acknowledge the unceded and unsurrendered Territory of the Anis Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ, Mohawk, Omàmìwininìwag (Algonquin), and St. Lawrence Iroquoians peoples whose lands I am a visitor on, and where I live, work and play. Acknowledging my settler status is a central focus in my day-to-day life, which extends into my practice and wherein I reaffirm my role in and commitment to decolonization. I am committed to centering meaningful education in my work to ensure that I am actively decolonizing my practice by recognizing that there are important conversations to be had in the spiritual community in which I practice about the cultural appropriation that white spiritual practitioners have adopted. Cultural appropriation is epistemic violence. It is important that Indigenous voices are centered within the spiritual community and that we listen in order to ensure our unlearning of the practices that have been adopted through cultural appropriation which continues to harm and traumatize Indigenous communities. Settler education that centres Indigenous voices is of the utmost importance. I will not purchase or use white sage in my practice as this is a sacred medicine that has been harvested by Indigenous Nations who have handled it with the utmost respect and care, allowing for the regeneration of such sacred medicines. The part that the spiritual community has played in over-harvesting of white sage cannot be overlooked and must not continue. While my practice involves burning natural materials such as lavender, cedar and sweet grass this practice is a traditional practice of smoke cleansing and is not be compared to the sacred practice smudging. The natural materials used in my practice are similarly sacred to the Indigenous community as well. By this, I acknowledge the authenticity and sacredness of Indigenous culture and practices, as well as the traumatic history that goes with that.

Decolonization is not a metaphor and must not be used as a buzz-word. Decolonization is a commitment to aligning myself with a practice that actively works against the colonial structures that have brought me to this land as a settler. I recognize the privileged position that I occupy within my intersectional identity and actively work to ensure that my actions will continue honour my solidarity with Indigenous Nations peoples and the right of self-determination and sovereignty. I support Landback initiatives.

I hear a lot that my readings are a very validating experience for people. What many might not realize, is how validating these readings are for me as well. It took me almost 34 years on this journey to get to the point where I opened my practice to the public. I am truly grateful for everyone who has entrusted me in their journey.
