What difference does it make to have a PSW look after a loved one on a regular basis?
Having a PSW come and spend time with your loved one gives you peace of mind. They can help with Activities of daily living (shower, dressing, exercises), prepare meals, provide companionship. A PSW will also notice if something is wrong. Having the same person come on a regular basis creates a relationship between the PSW and the client.
Currently I am looking after a client for 2 hours Monday to Friday and it has a positive impact on my client.
She is comfortable with me and accepts my help without hesitation now.
Establishing this relationship and trust is the basis for good caregiving.
