Happy International Women’s Day 💜

Today we celebrate the strength, resilience, and wisdom of women in all their diversity. At Connected Roots Therapy, we honour the many identities, cultures, stories, and experiences that women carry.

We believe healing happens in spaces where people feel seen, connected, and like they truly belong. Today and every day, we celebrate women supporting women, lifting each other up, and creating communities where everyone can grow.

Here’s to connection, compassion, and belonging for all women. 🌿✨

Some days diabetes is louder than everything else.

Today I’m walking the tunnels at Carleton instead of being in my somatic experiencing training. Not by choice — but because my pump and Dexcom decided not to communicate after I put them on opposite sides of my body. Cue the blood sugar rollercoaster all day.

Right now I’m walking off a low (this works for me — everyone’s body is different). But it also means missing something I was really looking forward to.

This is the part of diabetes people don’t always see.
The constant adjustments.
The mental math.
The plans that change last minute.

And diabetes is only one piece of life. We’re also juggling work, relationships, mental health, family, and everything else that comes with being human.

The mental load is real. ❤️‍🩹

At Connected Roots Therapy, we get it and we support those living with diabetes and their families. Email admin@connectedroots.ca to find out more.

If you live with diabetes — what’s something you’ve had to miss, pause, or change because of your blood sugars?

Screens aren’t the root problem but they can become part of the cycle.

When anxiety is high and resilience feels low, technology provides fast relief. The goal isn’t shame or sudden restriction. It’s helping teens build the internal capacity to tolerate discomfort and re-engage with life outside their screens.

Priya works specifically with teens navigating school avoidance and anxiety and is currently accepting new clients at Connected Roots Therapy.

If your family is feeling stuck in the cycle of school refusal and screen dependence, reach out to admin@connectedroots.ca to find the support that feels right for your teen. 🌿

If you are parenting through foster care, adoption, kinship care, or customary care, you stepped into a story already in motion.

You may be holding court dates, case workers, school meetings, birth family dynamics, identity questions, trauma responses, and your own exhaustion, all at once.

You may deeply love this child and still feel overwhelmed.

That doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It means you’re human.

At Connected Roots Therapy, we believe permanency work is relational work. And caregivers need a space that is just for them.

Jean offers virtual parent support across Ontario and is accepting new clients. She offers support for caregivers navigating the emotional and relational complexities of permanency.

You do not have to carry the complexity alone.

Staying matters.
And being supported while you stay matters too. 🌸

When your teen seems checked out about their diabetes, it can feel scary.

You might wonder:
Is this defiance?
Is this depression?
Are they just being a teen?

Often, it’s burnout.

Teens with Type 1 diabetes are making dozens of health decisions every single day — while also navigating identity, independence, friendships, and pressure to fit in.

That’s a lot for a developing nervous system.

In our latest blog, we break down:
✔️ What diabetes distress looks like
✔️ How to tell burnout from typical teen moodiness
✔️ Ways to reduce shame and conflict at home
✔️ When to consider mental health support

If you’re parenting a teen with Type 1 in Ontario, this one is for you.

Sometimes teens push away the people they need the most — not because they don’t care, but because they’re overwhelmed and don’t know how to say it.

Therapy gives teens a space to talk without pressure, feel understood, and learn how to cope with big emotions and stress.

If your teen is struggling, they don’t have to carry it alone. 🤍

✨Priya at Connected Roots work with teens virtually and in person in Ottawa. Email is at admin@connectedroots.ca to connect, or go to our website at the link in bio for more info.
